The motto here is: Here at Forestdale, we grow readers. The photos below show K, 1 and 2nd graders reading together - with a grade level partner, with a younger or older reading buddy, or to an adult. Much of the reading shared was the "published" writing projects that each grade level completed in the past weeks. All the authors enjoyed reading their stories to new listeners. This sharing among grade levels just continues the collaborative community spirit that we foster at this great school. Enjoy looking at our growing readers and writers.

As part of the ARC literacy program, Kindergarteners researched and wrote about an animal of choice. This class had a zoo presentation to peers and adults in the school. Students read a fact sentence they wrote about their research animal, and shared their artistic creation of that animal. First graders were an amazing audience for this presentation, and the Kindergarteners loved presenting to the big kids.
These Kindergarten and 2nd grade students are sharing some reading time together. Students read their non fiction stories or favorite books from the classroom to each other. Students are so proud of their work, and truly enjoy sharing their knowledge with other students.
As part of the ARC program, first graders also researched an animal of choice, detailing the habitat, diet and other important facts. The students compiled their final handwritten work into a published story that they shared with peers and adults. Each classroom finds their own way to celebrate publishing their stories. The common factor is the celebration of reading and writing with people in our school community.
