Rhizoprionodon porosus is commonly known as the Caribbean sharpnose shark and belongs to the family of Carthaginian or requiem sharks. This family often possess five gill slits over or posterior to the pectoral fin, and two dorsal fins. R. porous possesses a slender body, elongated, moderately rounded snout and has long labial furrows at its mouth corners (Figs 1 and 2). Its prenatal snout (in front of the nostrils) is approximately 3.3 to 4.5% of its total length (Compagno, 1984). R. porous has a brown to grey-brown body color and a white underside with occasional white spots along the flank region.
