Do you love to read? Share that love of reading with an adult who struggles with basic literacy skills. Our 12 hour tutor training course will teach you about phonics, word patterns, vocabulary development, reading comprehension and fluency. Once you complete the course, you are matched with one adult who needs help. Tutors and students meet in public places such as libraries for an hour or two each week.
Sessions take to complete this course:
We also need volunteers to tutor ELL (English Language Learner) adults. Our ELL adults come from other countries and want to improve in areas such as vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and conversational skills. You don't need to speak another language to tutor. LNNY provides all the materials you need to work with the student. However, note that there is a $25 fee for the textbook used in the course.
