Winter Conferences

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to attend your student's conference. It was great being able to share the progress that the students have been making this year. It was also a wonderful opportunity to set new goals and talk about how to move them toward meeting those goals. A copy of the goal setting worksheets are going home with the students today.

Class Dojo

We have stopped using the circle sheets and are continuing to use Class Dojo to track student behavior. If you have not already signed up and need your login information, please do not hesitate to call or email me!

Guided Reading Texts

When I meet with a reading group, I send the students back to their seats with their brand new leveled text. The students take it home so that they can practice using the decoding strategies we have been practicing in our small group with you as they are reading their "perfect fit" books. Please make sure that these texts come back to school the next day with the sticky note signed. The students earn a focus ticket and a Class Dojo point for their hard work!

Students have continued studying properties of rocks. Ask your son/daughter about the rocks that they observed, and what happens when they rub the rocks together or wash them. What are the various ways that they were able to sort their river rock collections?

Our Buddy Project

Mrs. Abrams turns 50 today! To celebrate, we made a book full of acrostic poems about Mrs. Abrams. The cover, the picture by our Upcoming Events, says "Happy 50th Birthday Mrs. Abrams!" The letters were acted out by students. I attached close ups of each letter. It was so much fun and it turned out beautifully!

Class Twitter Account

I have continued to post what we have been doing in the classroom on Twitter. Feel free to follow us! Our Twitter "handle" is @Loverdes1stGr

Robert Frost Library Checkout Days

The students will be going to the LRC to check out books on Day 4, 5, or 6 (depending on their special group).

The students should read every night for at least 15 minutes. They may read the book they chose to bring home or one they have at home already. If the student brings home their guided reading book, that is what they should be reading.

The students are also bringing home math homework almost nightly. Please remember that this does not need to come back to school. Feel free to use it as your family seems fit.
