New York State 3rd Grade Assessments

KidLit Palooza!

Please check out the link above for this amazing opportunity for your child! Many children's authors will be sharing about their books and talking about the writing process for students in grades 3-8. There will be opportunities to buy books and have them signed as well!

This week...

Last week, we concluded our study on poetry and shared what we learned in our SeeSaw Digital Journals. Students learned about different types of poetry (acrostic, haiku, piku (for PI Day) and limericks. They also learned about literary devices such as imagery, personification, alliteration, rhyme, similes, and onomatopoeia.

This week in English Language Arts, we will be studying the genre of reading to answer test questions. We are finishing up our information books in writing and also completing the March blogging challenge. Students are also continuing with their independent reading and working towards reaching the 40 Book Challenge!

In Math, we will have our mid-module assessment on fractions on Friday. We will be comparing fractions this week.

In Science, we are continuing our exploration of water.

Growth Mindset Video

The students and I watched the video (below) and had a great conversation about what they learned from it. If you have a chance, check it out and then talk with your child about your thoughts, too! "Growth Mindset" is the idea that you can always improve, that perseverance is important, and we are all always learning. Let me know what you think!
