Virtual Lego Club
We can't do the PTO LEGO club in person this year but we can still have a Spencer LEGO club online (Open to everyone - in-person and BVA kids). Here is how it will work:
Every Friday for 8 weeks, the two challenges for the week with be posted on the PTO Facebook page and in the Scoop. The kids have until the next set of challenges goes up to post their entries. Post your entry in the COMMENTS of the challenge on the PTO Facebook page post or email entry pictures to cornellem@gmail.com (if you are not on Facebook). Each week anyone who does both challenges will be entered in a drawing for a weekly prize. If your child completes ALL the challenges for all eight weeks (16 total), they'll be entered to win the GRAND PRIZE: a $100 gift card to the LEGO store.
PTO online LEGO Challenges Week 1:
Challenge #1: LEGO club always starts with the tallest tower challenge. Have your child create a stand-alone (they can't hold it up) LEGO tower. Then take a photo of your child next to the tower and enter with their name, grade and teacher's name plus the height of the tower in the comments on the PTO Facebook page LEGO post or by email.
Challenge #2: Have your kids create a LEGO snowman. Then take a photo of your child with the snowman and post in the comments on the PTO Facebook page LEGO post or by email.
Have fun Roadrunners!
March Family Fun: Shamrock Search - A Spencer Family Scavenger Hunt
The PTO is holding a Shamrock Search - A Spencer Family Scavenger Hunt from March 1- March 21. See the flyer attached in this Scoop for the list of the 12 streets you will drive down to look for the shamrock or leprechaun yard stake (see the picture of the stakes you are looking for on the flyer). When you spot one, record the house number where you found it. Then you will submit a google form with the 12 house numbers and win a prize from the PTO. Since March is reading month, the prizes are books! The google form to submit will be on the PTO Facebook page, on our website and here is the link:
A Half Way There Surprise!
Yesterday, our Spencer students and staff were treated to a special surprise from the PTO! The prize cart made its way around to all the classrooms to give each student and staff member the opportunity to choose a prize from us to say great work so far this year! We are proud of the accomplishments so far this year. Keep it up! BVA students will receive a prize at the next pick up.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Counselor Corner! Welcome to February, families! Here we are again with another month and another lesson topic for classrooms. We will be visiting students to talk about Empathy and standing in the shoes of others. By looking at multiple perspectives, we can gain a better understanding of how our actions impact others and the world around us. We will discuss how others feel and where they are coming from. This provides a way to learn what we can do to help our family, friends, and peers when they need us most. Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school. More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! COVID-19 Self-Reporting
COVID Communication
In an attempt to NOT over-communicate to all families at Spencer with emails regarding positive Covid 19 cases, BAS is no longer sending community-wide emails to all parents and guardians for each case, at each building.
We ARE, of course, still sending emails to ALL students, parents, and staff facing mandated quarantines and ALL parents, students, and staff who have been in classrooms where a positive Covid 19 case has been reported.
Families of those directly impacted receive direct communication regarding any new cases. If you have any questions regarding COVID-19, please feel free to visit our district's COVID-19 transparency site at https://www.brightonk12.com/Page/8729"
In addition, the Livingston County Health Department is no longer receiving the reports of positive COVID-19 tests of adults between the ages of 19-64 from the testing sites. For this reason, they are requesting that our parent/guardians self-report if they have tested positive or exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 to allow for the necessary contact-tracing within our school. You will find the link to the to the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form below...
