Congratulations to the Kluck Family

Congratulations to Spencer Elementary students, Zoe and Piper Kluck, who were announced the winners of the Brighton Area Schools "Love Your Pet Day" contest! You can read all about it in the article on WHMI by clicking the button below.

Welcome Mrs. Lumsden!

I have been in Brighton for 6 years. I have 3 kids, 2 at Spencer, 1 at Maltby. I have been involved in the Spencer PTO for 3 years. Before becoming a full time mom, I was a Professional Civil Engineer. I am very excited to be helping out in the lunch room and spending a little time with all our great Spencer kids!

Thank You's!

Thank You to ExxonMobil!

Spencer is excited to share that we have received the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Grant for 2020! This was awarded to us on behalf of our local Mobil at the corner of Spencer Rd and Old 23 and the Mobil on Woodward Ave in Ferndale. We have used the grant to support our STEM programs in various ways. We purchased breakout kits where students will work collaboratively to solve content-specific puzzles. We also purchased materials and tools for students and staff to use with the design studio to support STEM education in all classrooms. The Spencer family would like to send a huge thank you to ExxonMobil!

Thank You From the Music Room

Thank you so much to all the wonderful Spencer Families who have donated needed supplies to the music room in the last few weeks. We are now well-stocked with tissues and hand sanitizer but are still accepting sanitizing wipes. Thank you again for your generosity.

Thank You to our Amazing PTO

On behalf of the students and staff of Spencer, we would like to thank our amazing PTO for the treats that were delivered to us yesterday for Kindness Week! The students were able to pick a prize from the Prize Cart and a jar of either flowers or candy was delivered to all the staff members. Thank you for your Kindness!

Virtual Lego Club

We can't do the PTO LEGO club in person this year but we can still have a Spencer LEGO club online (Open to everyone - in-person and BVA kids). Here is how it will work:

Every Friday for 8 weeks, the two challenges for the week with be posted on the PTO Facebook page and in the Scoop. The kids have until the next set of challenges goes up to post their entries. Post your entry in the COMMENTS of the challenge on the PTO Facebook page post or email entry pictures to cornellem@gmail.com (if you are not on Facebook). Each week anyone who does both challenges will be entered in a drawing for a weekly prize. If your child completes ALL the challenges for all eight weeks (16 total), they'll be entered to win the GRAND PRIZE: a $100 gift card to the LEGO store.

PTO online LEGO Challenges Week 1:

Challenge #1: LEGO club always starts with the tallest tower challenge. Have your child create a stand-alone (they can't hold it up) LEGO tower. Then take a photo of your child next to the tower and enter with their name, grade and teacher's name plus the height of the tower in the comments on the PTO Facebook page LEGO post or by email.

Challenge #2: Have your kids create a LEGO snowman. Then take a photo of your child with the snowman and post in the comments on the PTO Facebook page LEGO post or by email.

Have fun Roadrunners!

A Half Way There Surprise!

Yesterday, our Spencer students and staff were treated to a special surprise from the PTO! The prize cart made its way around to all the classrooms to give each student and staff member the opportunity to choose a prize from us to say great work so far this year! We are proud of the accomplishments so far this year. Keep it up! BVA students will receive a prize at the next pick up.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Counselor Corner!

Welcome to February, families! Here we are again with another month and another lesson topic for classrooms. We will be visiting students to talk about Empathy and standing in the shoes of others. By looking at multiple perspectives, we can gain a better understanding of how our actions impact others and the world around us. We will discuss how others feel and where they are coming from. This provides a way to learn what we can do to help our family, friends, and peers when they need us most.

Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.

More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!

COVID-19 Self-Reporting

COVID Communication

In an attempt to NOT over-communicate to all families at Spencer with emails regarding positive Covid 19 cases, BAS is no longer sending community-wide emails to all parents and guardians for each case, at each building.

We ARE, of course, still sending emails to ALL students, parents, and staff facing mandated quarantines and ALL parents, students, and staff who have been in classrooms where a positive Covid 19 case has been reported.

Families of those directly impacted receive direct communication regarding any new cases. If you have any questions regarding COVID-19, please feel free to visit our district's COVID-19 transparency site at https://www.brightonk12.com/Page/8729"

In addition, the Livingston County Health Department is no longer receiving the reports of positive COVID-19 tests of adults between the ages of 19-64 from the testing sites. For this reason, they are requesting that our parent/guardians self-report if they have tested positive or exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 to allow for the necessary contact-tracing within our school. You will find the link to the to the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form below...
