Newsletter Week 8 Term 2

Titahi Bay Intermediate School 21st June 2021

Principal's Korero

Welcome to our new digital newsletter which enables us to be able to include clear pictures, video and music recordings as well. Please be patient as we navigate our way through this new platform. We will still be providing hard copies to students to ensure that information gets home on both the electronic and hard copy platforms.

We are now starting Week 8 with a few different events happening between now and the end of the Term. Information for these events are provided below in more detail, so put them into your calendar as it would be good to see you there.

Our students are working on completing their student inquiry that they have been focusing on for the past two terms. Teachers are now planning the focus of our next student inquiry which will be delivered throughout the remainder of the year.

Julia Kelly who has worked in the office over the past year has left Titahi Bay Intermediate. We would like to thank her for the work that she has done during her time with us and wish her all the very best for her next journey in life. We welcome Debra Lobban who has come out of retirement to help cover in the office for the meantime.

As the winter weather is upon us it is important that your child has their school hoodie to wear. We do have a number of unnamed hoodies in our lost property in the office, so please enquire if your child needs one.

Our teachers have been making contact with whānau to provide updates on a range of things. I would like to thank you all for your on-going support with working alongside our team to support the progress and achievement of our students.

Matariki and Whānau Movie Night

This Friday 25th June 2021 we will be holding a combined event for whānau to come along to. Starting at 5.30 p.m. there will be a presentation to celebrate Matariki followed by a movie. This will be held in the hall so bring along your fold out chairs, cushions, air chairs, blankets etc and find a spot on the hall floor. It's a great way to spend time with the whānau.

There is no cost for this event but you are more than welcome to bring along some lose change to purchase popcorn, ice-blocks, soup, small bag of lollies etc.

If you have ordered a hangi then you will be able to enjoy this as it will be ready at 6.30 p.m.

As this is a school whānau movie night students must attend with members of their whānau.

TBI Garden Enviro Group

A big thanks to the commitment of Allie Rutherford who has been busy supporting our students and working alongside Miss Gorman in our TBI Garden on Friday mornings. The vegetables are looking amazing.

NZEI Paid Union Meeting

Due to our teachers attending a paid union meeting this Wednesday 23rd June starting at 2.00 p.m. school will finish at 1.50 p.m.

If you require you child to remain at school until 3.00 p.m. then please let the office know as they will be supervised in the library.

Hangi Fundraiser

There are still tickets available for this weeks hangi being held on Friday 25th June. The cost per hangi is $12.00 so get in fast so that you don't miss out on a yummy kai to eat during our Whānau Movie and Matariki night.

If you are available at 11.00am on Thursday 24th June to help peel and cut vegetables then please come along to the staffroom. If you cannot make this time but will be available from 5.30 p.m. on the same day to help pack each hangi, then please come along. The more hands we have the lighter the work.

Term 2 Trophy Night

Our end of term Trophy Night will be held on Wednesday 7th July starting at 6.00 p.m. in our school hall. If your child received a trophy last term, now is the time to dust it off and return it to the school office.

Titahi Bay Intermediate Open Night

If you know of any whānau who have a current Year 6 student then invite them to come along to our Titahi Bay Intermediate Open Night. This will be held on Wednesday 30th June with doors opening at 5.30 p.m. and the official programme starting at 6.00 p.m. and ending at 7.00 p.m.

We will have a number of current students who will be part of our Open Night team and will be showing people around or performing on the night.

Year 7 Boostrix Immunization

Our Year 7 students will be receiving their Boostrix injection on Wednesday 23rd June. Please ensure that your child's immunization form has been filled out and returned to the office, even if your child is not receiving it.

Gnomes and Gardens - School Production

Students who were interested in auditioning for speaking parts in our up and coming school production of Gnomes and Gardens have now been allocated their parts. All students who auditioned were allocated a speaking part. As we start to put this together we will be calling on other students who would like to be part of the production as extras or back stage support.

As we work through our props, costumes and stage sets we may call out out to our community for various items to borrow. So watch this space. Our Production will be show cased half way through Term 3.
