National Espresso Day

An espresso is an italian-style coffee. It is the base for many coffee products such as cappuccino, cafe latte and macchiato. Espressos are not a type of bean, it is a special way of brewing, you have to force pressurized hot water through ground coffee topped with a creme. The first espresso was made by Luigi Bezzera, the owner of a manufacturing plant. Bezzera wanted to speed up the time it took to make coffee so he added steam pressure to the to the process making a stronger coffee. Bezzera wasn't very good at advertising like he was as at engineering so Desidaro Pavoni bought the machine from him and pattented it. It was thanks to Pavoni that the espresso became popular. In the 1940's Achille Gaggia created a piston-based coffee machine that didn't have the burnt flavor that earlier ones had, and making it thicker. Espresso day should be a national holiday because it has come a long way and we should be proud of and celebrate it!
