Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
Can you believe April is here? This year is flying! As the warmer weather approaches, please be mindful of appropriate attire that does not interfere with the learning process. The following guidelines should prove helpful in planning for warm weather attire:
- No tight, brief or exposing garments, specifically the midriff or shorts/skirts that are mid-thigh or higher.
- No halter tops or tank tops with spaghetti straps - all straps should have a wide band that is at least “3 fingers” in width.
- No hats or head coverings are permitted, except for religious or medical reasons.
- Appropriate footwear is to be worn at all times. Flip flops, high heels, strappy sandals, and Heeleys are not permitted.
As we await that warmer weather, students will continue to go outside for recess. Therefore, appropriate outerwear and footwear should be worn. Please be sure to label all your children's jackets and lunch bags. Our primary goal and focus continues to be the safety and well-being of our students while providing them with a sound educational program. I thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
April 4-8 will be our North Merrick 2nd Annual College and Career Week. We are very excited for the different activities and various careers represented at the Virtual Career Fair.
Just a reminder we have Spring Recess April 14th - April 22nd. Schools will be closed during that time.
The NYS Math Assessments will be administered to grades 3-6, April 26-28. Grades 3 & 5 will take the assessment on April 26 and 27. Grades 4 & 6 will take the assessment on April 27 and 28.
Our next PTA meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27th. I hope you can join us. Let’s have an Amazing April!
Sincerely,
Hillary Bromberg, Ed.D.

Happiness Day
Camp Avenue was spilling over with happiness on March 18th! The Student Council chalked the walkway with inspiring messages, leading to the school building and offered positive affirmations to each student as they walked through the doors. The hallways were decorated with emojis hanging from the ceiling and yellow decorations on the walls. Students cleaned out their desks and backpacks for the joyful feeling of being organized. Students set personal and academic goals for themselves and they will celebrate accomplishments in June or cheer their peers on to continue working towards their goals. The classes enjoyed some scheduled play time during the day and the entire school broke out into random dancing at a couple of points during the day as music filled the building over the PA System. What a great day!
Did You Know we Have a Direct Absence Line?
Please be reminded that regular school attendance is not only mandated by law, but is a key ingredient for educational success. Legal reasons for absences include: illness, death in family, court appearances, and observance of religious holidays. If your child is frequently absent due to illness, you will be contacted and medical documentation may be requested. All other absences will be considered unexcused or truant.
Please also be aware that lateness to school can be considered partial truancy and is monitored as closely as absences. Chronic lateness is disruptive to the students in the class, the teacher, and most importantly, to the child. Parents and guardians are asked to contact the school to report each absence. This can be done by calling our Absentee Line at 516-379-3733. If you are requesting classwork and/or homework for your child on the day of the absence, please leave that message with the nurse or on the absence line. Parents are requested to submit a written and signed excuse note for each absence your child has, when they return to school.
