Celebrating Black History Month in Guidance
To celebrate Black History Month, students have been learning about historic African Americans. In guidance class, we read stories about Harriet Tubman and Ruby Bridges. The students played a tribal game called, "Kudoda Zimbabwe". We also listened to songs written by slaves over 200 years ago. Students went on a virtual tour of the Underground Railroad. This experience allowed them to take on the perspective of a slave fleeing from a plantation. As a class, the student’s made tough decisions on how to journey to freedom. Second graders completed an art project on a famous African American that they admire. Each student colored a picture of their selected person and wrote why they look up to them.

Presidents' Day
The best way to learn about Abraham Lincoln is to create stovepipe hats complete with beards!
Mrs. William's class enjoyed learning about Abraham Lincoln through role-playing. Each student wrote a fact they learned about the sixteenth president on their hats. They spent an eventful afternoon introducing themselves as Abraham Lincoln and reading each other's historical information.
