Profile of the Graduate in Action!
The Profile of the Graduate was on full display this week at Memorial School! Our students showed confidence while hosting families and friends during our Share Your School event. Thanks to all who came--it means a lot to our teachers and most importantly to our students. They are so proud of the work they accomplish and the community they have helped build at Memorial.
Caring was a focal point during our Start with Hello and Character Day activities. We were fortunate to have performer Brian Chevalier engage Memorial's learners in an interactive assembly on September 26th that celebrated good character, respect, and caring.
Your support led to our Jog-a-Thon's enormous success again this year! Thanks to our amazing PTO and all who came to cheer our students on. It warmed our hearts to see the sportsmanship and teamwork of our students during this event. Students were actively encouraging each other and even when they might have been too tired to continue jogging, friends moved to the side to applaud their peers until they caught their breath and could rejoin the fun.
With Pride,
Andy & Brandy

Mr. Frost secretly invited family members to a picnic on a beautiful day in our courtyard. His 3rd graders shared great stories, munched on favorite snacks, and made special memories.
NAEYC Accreditation
Research shows a direct correlation between high-quality early learning and children's positive long-term outcomes in life, including increased educational attainment, healthier lifestyles, and more successful careers. NAEYC Accreditation helps teachers and other staff at early learning programs develop a shared understanding and commitment to quality. The accreditation process enables centers to provide a solid foundation for all children's success in life. NAEYC Accreditation helps families recognize quality early learning programs and feel comfortable knowing that their children are receiving a high-quality, research-based education that will prepare them for future success. Memorial School recently submitted our candidacy materials (the 3rd step of a 4 step process) and will soon be welcoming a NAEYC assessor to observe our preschool classrooms. We are proud of the experience we offer our students and look forward to achieving accreditation. After the accreditation visit, we look forward to sharing our program results with you.
We are excited to showcase our teams throughout the month of September!

First Grade Author Visit!
Dear 1st Grade Families,
We are excited that Caldecott-Honor author and illustrator, Brendan Wenzel, will be stopping by Memorial this fall! Mr. Wenzel has written and illustrated several books including: They All Saw A Cat; Hello, Hello; Life; and his touring title, A Stone Sat Still. On October 24th, our 1st grade students will be attending an assembly to listen to a presentation by our special guest. Mr. Wenzel will discuss his books and describe his story to becoming an author/illustrator. We are all looking forward to his visit.
Order forms will go home with all 1st grade students next week. Families who wish to purchase a signed copy of A Stone Sat Still will be able to do so with this form.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Flannery, Mrs. Warner, or Mrs. Skarvelas.
A Stone sat still with the water, grass, and dirt...
“In this moving companion to the Caldecott Honor–winning They All Saw a Cat, Brendan Wenzel tells the story of a seemingly ordinary stone. But it isn't just a stone—to the animals that use it, it's a resting place, a kitchen, a safe haven...even an entire world. With stunning illustrations in cut paper, pencil, collage, and paint, and soothing rhythms that invite reading aloud, A Stone Sat Still is a gorgeous exploration of perspective, perception, sensory experience, color, size, function, and time, with an underlying environmental message that is timely and poignant. Once again Wenzel shows himself to be a master of the picture book form.”
