Reading Junior High Longhorns
Hello ARJH Longhorn Parents!
We are in the home stretch towards the end of the 1st 6 weeks grading period with a very short week this week and final week of the grading period after that. I love seeing our kids not only getting the hang of school after summer, but now really finding their stride and realizing just how much they have to gain and offer as part of a learning community. They work so well together when they are working through challenging activities and discussions in the classroom and figure out that there is strength and higher levels of learning when they collaborate and respect each other in the process.
It is probably one of my favorite things to do- listen and observe as kids talk to each other about answers to high level questions and hear that wonderful acknowledgement of "oh, I get it now" as the connections happen. Learning is a growth process and this is why most of us in education continue to do what we do- there is no other career where we see the positive impact that education, connection and high expectations come together in real time.
Our kids are also kids and it was nice to see them play and have fun during our Fun Friday lunch time this week- a part of our PBIS this year. We will be doing much more this year to recognize and reinforce positive behavior and showing character. Each 6 weeks, we will recognize students for their academic and behavioral achievements.
ID's are full force- students are required to wear their ID's at all times around their necks. Bus transportation requires students to have their ID's to ride and ID's are also part of our school dress code and district expectation for all students. Please help your child keep his/hers by their backpack or at a place where they will not forget them.
We have a busy and short week this week- please see our schedule below.
Thank you for sending us the Best of the Best!!

AM Drop Off- Students may enter the school at 7:30 AM- If dropping off prior, please allow students to exit your vehicle when you pull up even if it is prior to 7:30 AM so that the line does not stop and we have a continuous traffic flow.
Drop off out front in front of the school along the curb (please do not drop off in the parking lot).
PM Pick Up- Follow the same route as AM. Pick up in the far right lane only- PULL all the way up past the ADA ramp in front of the school.
Parking Lot Pick-Up- We will not be crossing students over to the parking lot until after 4:00 PM.
ID's must be worn around the neck on a lanyard at ALL times upon entering the school. We are going to be taking a picture of every student during PE the first couple of days and will issue a new Smart Tag ID to every student. If a student loses his/her Smart Tag after being issued the first new one, we will print another one for a $5.00 charge each time. Easy way to keep up with them- have your child loop it on their backpack when they get home every day. Students without ID's after being issued a new one will not be allowed to ride the PM bus.No parking, pick up or stopping on the road right behind the parking lot.
Cell Phone Rule at Reading:
Cell phones must be powered off and put into backpack upon entering the school. No phones should be in pockets or seen during the day. Students may retrieve them and turn them on at 3:40 PM to be available for communicating with parents. If you have a message to give to your child during the day, please call 832-223-4400 and we will deliver the message to your child.
