End of Year News

Ms. Schmidt's Class 2015-2016

End of the Year

It's hard to believe that we've arrived at the end of the school year!

I've really enjoyed working with your children and have been so impressed with how hard they have all worked in first grade!

In this newsletter, you will find some end of the year news, but also some ideas/resources to help you work with your child this summer.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

End of Year Party

A page went home in folders yesterday asking for donations for our ice cream party on Friday, June 3. If you can donate any of the following items, please let me know.

  • ice cream
  • whip cream
  • shredded coconut
  • canned chunked pineapple
  • macadamia nuts

Thank you so much to those who have already offered to send in items. I sent a note home in your child's folder confirming your donation item. Thanks!

Stop the Summer Slide

Students who don't read and practice skills during the summer suffer from what we call the summer slide. Some students can slide back and lose up to 3 months of learning during summer vacation. Use the tips below to help your child keep their learning sharp this summer!

  • Visit the library - the library has wonderful summer programs and activities for kids of all ages
  • Keep a travel/vacation journal
  • Use our online programs - Raz-Kids, Dreambox, PebbleGo, iReady, Brainpop
  • Use practice books that have been sent home - every student will get a math workbook. Some students will get a word-work book.
