Dear JE community,
We have lots going on at JE to support our school community and the larger Reading community. Please see below:
JE is participating in our third fundraiser event this year! Please feel free to drop off any gently used or brand new sneakers or support our Girls on the Run by bringing in any of the following items to donate care packages to Children's Hospital in Boston!

- Play- Doh or Silly Putty
Please join us in making our Community impact project a success! We will be collecting items until 11/21 in the main lobby or they can be brought directly to Ms. Cucinotta.
Additionally, Student Council is donating a tree to the Reading Education Foundation’s Festival of Trees again this year! It will be held at Parker Middle School on 12/3 and 12/4. Our theme is Crafts for All! We are looking for donations of craft kits/supplies for all ages! Please bring all donations to the box outside the office! Here is our Amazon Wish List for donations!

PTO's Corner
As we move into the holiday season we have so much to be grateful for. We are thankful for the teachers, staff, caregivers, and volunteers who make this a wonderful community. Here are a few reminders and call outs for the coming weeks.
📌PTO General Meeting Wed 11/16 at 7pm: Join us over zoom to catch up on PTO events and ask any questions you may have. Zoom link will be sent next week.
📌Holiday Breads Collection: Each year, JE PTO and families provide holiday breads to all of the amazing teachers and staff at Joshua Eaton! For those unfamiliar with this event, we collect store-purchased breads (banana bread, pumpkin bread, etc.) and deliver them to the school for the staff at JE to bring home for the Thanksgiving holiday. Please sign up by Friday, November 18 so that we can supplement as needed.

Thank you to Sue Newell and Anne Maganzini for organizing this JE tradition!
📌Food Drive: The Student Council and PTO are partnering to collect donations for the Reading Food Pantry. Please consider contributing an item or two from the recommended list below. A collection bin will be left outside the main office beginning 11/14 through 12/9. Thank you in advance for your generosity! Items we are collecting: black tea, herbal tea, instant mashed potatoes, laundry detergent, granola bars, protein bars, canned beets, canned corn, canned creamed corn, canned spinach, canned peas, cooking oil, 2lb. boxes of granulated sugar, 2lb. bags of flour, liquid dish soap, Market Basket gift card in $20 & $40 increments
The Jaguar Jog: We are so excited for the return of the annual Jaguar Jog after-school on Thursday, December 1st! This event is JE’s fun run for students in Grades 3-5. It will take place right after school (weather permitting), in the streets behind JE, starting at 3:00PM. It is voluntary, and all levels of runners are encouraged to participate.
Permission slips must be returned by Tuesday, November 22nd in order for students to run. These were sent home in backpacks last week. There will be separate routes for the 3rd grade (.4 mi loop), 4th grade (.8 mi double loop), and 5th grade (1-mile route). Families are welcome to attend and stand on the sidewalks anywhere along the route to cheer for the jaguars.
Please sign up if you’re available to help: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0845a9a928a31-jaguar and reach out to Erin Gaffen: eringaffen@gmail.com with any questions. We can’t wait to see those smiling faces cross the finish line!
📌Spiritwear: Spiritwear orders have closed for the season. Items should be ready in early December for distribution.
📌Halloween Candy: Many thanks to those who participated in this year's Treats for Troops candy collection. We were able to donate over 20 bags of candy to deployed service members and veterans. Thank you to Emily James and Alexis McDermott for coordinating this event again!
Have a great week!

Reading Public Schools is a METCO District
"Since its founding during the peak of the Civil Rights Movement, the METCO program has enrolled tens of thousands of Boston students of color in predominately white school districts, creating the opportunity for those districts to experience the advantages of learning and working in a racially and ethnically diverse setting."
Found Family Program
Please take a look at the attached document detailing our “Found Family” Program. With the collaboration of 8th grade students from Parker Middle School and all Elementary PTO’s we produced the name “Found Family,” and this document for our district Found Family program. What does Found Family mean? “A group of people who find themselves united in a family-bond based on shared experiences, mutual understanding, and interpersonal connection. Found Family is not biological but found when placed in a new place.”
