Fifth Grade News

Welcome to the 5th Grade Cafe

WRITING

This week we finished publishing our informational pieces. The students did their best applying all that they have learned during the past 12 weeks.

READING

In reading, we continued with our analysis of theme in poetry. The students focused on finding evidence in poetry to support a given theme. They worked hard at balancing their evidence and own ideas in their responses.

MATH

This week we finished up our module on adding and subtracting fractions. The students applied their understanding and knowledge of fractions to multi-step word problems. They also determined the reasonableness of an answer.

CHORUS CONCERT

Congratulations to all of the 5th and 6th graders who participate in chorus. Once again, they put on a fabulous performance!

A PEEK INTO NEXT WEEK

Writing: Next week we will begin our unit on opinion/argument writing. We will start by determining the difference between an opinion and an argument.

Reading: We will end our literature unit with poetry writing. The students have spent the majority of this unit reading and analyzing poems. Next week they will become the poets

Math: In math, we will finish up our module on fractions. The students will also take their assessment.
