This week in 7th grade ELA we assessed our knowledge of the past 7 weeks. On Monday, the students finished a theme newspaper that they created in mini groups and we did a unit test review for the Outsiders. On Tuesday, students took the Outsiders unit test and presented their theme newspapers to the class. Our presentation skills need some work, but I think we have some future reporters in each class. On Wednesday we watched the Outsiders movie to compare and contrast to the book. Students unanimously enjoyed the book more! To finish up the week we did a Halloween writing activity and the last article of the week for this unit. An extra credit opportunity was also given to improve grades for the unit work. Next week we start our Dystopian unit and we will be reading the novel The Giver. This was a favorite last year, I look forward to seeing all of their ideas grow! Have a fantastic long weekend!

Algebra wrapped up module 4 this week with a quiz on equations and inequalities. We began module 5 which looks at equations in two variables and functions. This module will set us up for our next unit, which is graphing. Once we finish module 5 there will be another unit test. Your son or daughter should be working on their module 5 vocabulary. Please check skyward for updated grades. I will be emailing progress reports on Monday. Encourage your son or daughter to complete any corrections they may have. Have a great weekend!

Students worked on learning the functions of cell organelles this week and we began our cell city project. During this project, students will come up with analogies for cell organelles and match them to city structures. They were able to choose their own groups of two or three to complete this project as it may require some time out of the classroom. Their choices are to create a poster, a 3-D model or a video of the cell city. Videos may include Minecraft or other world building games. This project is due November 8th. Students will also have the chapter 3 section 2 quiz next Friday Nov. 4th which will be on organelles and their functions.
Have a great weekend!

This week in U.S History we finished looking James Monroe implemented the “American System” to try to help unify the country. As we learned this didn’t help because some regions got up upset with Tariffs to help other regions. We then looked at the Missouri Compromise which helped settle the dispute on whether Missouri would be a slave or free state. Finally we talked about the “Monroe Doctrine” which stated that European countries could no longer establish any new colonies in the Americas. This was an important step in showing the power and respect that the United States had in the Western Hemisphere. Next week, students will be completing the Chapter 11 test. Students have a study guide, guided reading packets, self check quizzes and the essay question to help study for the test. Students write the essay ahead of time and show me if they would like, however they will have to re-write the essay again on the test. Have a great long weekend. Mr. Johnsen

Students this week continued to learn Spanish numbers 0-100. We have made it to one hundred and are now working on practicing our speaking and writing skills. Students completed a variety of activities and games, like "Smack the number" game, partner writing activity and Quizizz technology game. We finished by doing a number scavenger hunt throughout the class. Next week, we will take a break from working with numbers and celebrate "Los Días de los Muertos" or "Day of the Dead."

This week in health all the rest of the 7th graders presented their newscasts on Unintentional Injuries. We also spent a considerable amount of time discussing what a SMART goal is and applied them to our fall Fitnessgram scores. These will be coming home in the near future.
This week in PE the students participated in 5 on 5 full court basketball game play and also started the 2 on 2 basketball tournament, which we will finish when we return from our mini break!
Have a rejuvenating weekend!
