Hawks Herald
March 2019 18th Edition
I want to congratulate the team and community for this enormous success! It has been an emotional event. I believe that there is definitely a spiritual and emotional component to living and modeling the 7 habits. This experience with our athletic team’s success this year in basketball and baseball has been a growth moment for all of us in attendance. People in other communities recognize what we are doing here.
We all know that kids in the school have reputations. Well, adults in schools and communities have reputations too. We hope to be the school community who always brings the positive energy, the school community who supports each other, and doesn’t say negative things about others.
I believe that this team has set the ultimate example of what it means to be champions and good sports. Mr. Quine and I have received several positive emails and phone calls from other schools, and some of those schools aren't teams that we played in our State Championship run. It assures me that these boys and girls, soon to be young men and women, will have a growth mindset, treat others with respect, and do the right thing when no one is looking.
People notice when we were doing things that were out of the ordinary, when we were doing things right, when we modeled the 7 habits and showed what it means to play hard and be competitive, but congratulate the other team on a job well done.
Congratulations to the Coach Quine, Coach Manley, the team, and all of you in the Hollis community, I am so proud to be a Hawk!
Sincerely,
Mr. Chad Jones
Superintendent
An Email Shared After the IESA 8-1A State Championship
Good Afternoon Mr. Jones and Coach Quine,
My name is Colin Arthalony. I am the 8th grade basketball coach at A-C Central. I wanted to reach out to you guys and let you know what a class act your Peoria Hollis players, coaches, and fans are. My son was #23 and he shared numerous stories of interactions he had with your players during the after the game. All of these interactions were positive interactions. I had
numerous fans from your school congratulate me and my players afterwards as well. I even had your scorekeeper email today to check on my player that was injured last night.
This is always easy to do when you win but we when you lose a close battle like last night's game in a game of that magnitude it can be difficult. I can only hope my fans and players would had responded the same way. I have
attached a picture that was sent to me last night by a fan that wasn't from either school that sums up what type of kids we had competing last night.
His caption was "great athletes, great champions, and a great example of
sportsmanship"
Coach Quine you are teaching these boys more than just basketball. Keep up the good work and good luck in the future.

March is music in our schools month!
Mrs. Mills' favorite top 5 reasons music is important in schools:
1. Better self-confidence: With encouragement from teachers and parents, students playing a musical instrument can build pride and confidence. Musical education is also likely to develop better communication for students.
2. Kids can learn teamwork: Many musical education programs require teamwork as part of a band or orchestra. In these groups, students will learn how to work together and build camaraderie.
3. Music builds imagination and intellectual curiosity: Introducing music in the early childhood years can help foster a positive attitude toward learning and curiosity. Artistic education develops the whole brain and develops a child’s imagination.
4. Emotional development: Students of music can be more emotionally developed, with empathy towards other cultures They also tend to have higher self esteem and are better at coping with anxiety.
5. Musical training helps develop language and reasoning: Students who have early musical training will develop the areas of the brain related to language and reasoning. The left side of the brain is better developed with music, and songs can help imprint information on young minds.
