MAY 8th - NIGHT OF THE ARTS!
Please remember:
Several children are being dropped off at school prior to 8:20am and there is no adult supervision at that time. We have placed this notice in our newsletter many times over the past school year, and families continue to drop kids off between 8am and 8:10am. Many children become anxious and upset if they can not get into the building or go out back to play on the recess yard.

Second Notice:
SUN SAFETY
Hi Parents/guardians- The sunscreen bill again did not pass this year. It has been held for further study. This means that sunscreen can NOT be applied at school without a physician order. Please see the sun safety information provided. Please apply a broad spectrum sunscreen to your children prior to school on sunny days to protect them. Feel free to call me with any questions.
As we begin to enter the warm and sunny months, it is important to protect
your children from the sun at home and at school. Why? Too much Ultraviolet
or UV radiation from the sun is a major risk factor for skin cancer. Skin during
childhood and adolescence is more vulnerable to the harmful, cancer-causing
effects of the sun. Exposure to UV rays is common, but also preventable.
Here are a few ways to keep your children safe during these summer months.
Sunscreen
Look for the words “Broad-Spectrum”
This protects from UVB and UVA
rays
Use at least 15 SPF (sun protection factor)
Apply 30 minutes or earlier before sun exposure
You can help your child apply to all exposed skin before school to protect
them during outdoor recess
Applying at home reduces the risk of other children with sunscreen
allergies from being exposed
Aerosol sunscreen should not be used in school, or inside any building to
avoid inhalation
Some brands that meet the criteria: Coppertone, Banana Boat , or
Neutrogena
Other Protective Measures
The first and best line of defense against ultraviolet radiation is
COVERING UP
Cotton clothing is cool and protective
Wear sleeves to cover arms and shoulders
A wide-brim hat protects cheeks, ears, chin, and back of neck
Look for sunglasses with UV protection to protect eyes
Limit time in the sun and look for shade
ALSO-
-Please send your child in with a refillable water bottle everyday. The building is very humid when it is hot out.
-Children should be wearing sneakers or playground appropriate closed toed shoes to school. I am seeing lots of injuries on the playground and in class from flip flops, and open toed shoes.
-Please be aware of the temperature and heat index when children are choosing clothing for school. Dressing in layers during our unpredictable New England spring weather is best.

From our office of Special Populations:
NOTICE:
May 17th Local Advisory Meeting (LAC) will have a time change.
The meeting is now scheduled to be located in the Administration Building’s Conference Room at 2:00 in order to accomodate our guest speaker.
Seizure Training for School Personnel is designed for all school staff (faculty, administration, specialists, paraprofessionals, guidance counselors, school psychologists, cafeteria workers, and bus drivers). The curriculum may be offered live as a professional development workshop or be taken online. The program helps school staff to recognize the most common forms of seizures likely to be seen in school, explains the appropriate first aid response, and provides ways to provide social and academic support to the student with epilepsy. The program uses a Powerpoint presentation along with video footage of these common forms of seizures.
