OPS Families: As winter continues, we want to remind you that we have two new options in our winter weather toolkit. The evening before a weather event, Omaha Public Schools may call for a two-hour late start or a two-hour early release if weather is predicted to affect part, but not all of a school day. We shared information about the new options earlier this year. OPS would communicate the schedule adjustment by phone call and email, so please be sure your student’s school has your current contact information on file. Please do not block calls or emails from OPS, as you may miss important messages in the future.

Team 8A/Equipo 8A
8A has had a great 3rd quarter!
Science students with Mr. Knutson went on a space journey for their final assignment. They got to choose places to travel within the solar system and complete research about those places to learn more about space, planets, and other aspects of the solar system.
Social Studies students completed their unit on causes and effects of the civil war, the lasting effects of slavery, and people who were important at the time. For their final project, they are completing a facebook profile for important leaders, abolitionists, and other figures from the Civil War. Students are able to understand the mindset of those who were most important during this time period.
Language Arts students just finished reading books of their choice and completing a final project demonstrating their knowledge of their reading. We started our final unit--which centers around the Holocaust, WWII and literature about survivors and victims of the terrible event. We also had the opportunity to go see the production of "The Diary of Anne Frank" at the Rose Theater. Students learned about Anne Frank's family and their experiences during the Holocaust. Students had a great time and enjoyed the play!
BONUS: Mrs. Reid's homeroom made valentines cookies and then 4th block decorated cookies for the ACP classroom for Valentine's Day. These students decorated a cookie and were able to hand deliver them to the students to enjoy!!
Team 8B/Equipo 8B
We want to send our appreciation to all parents and guardians that were able to attend conferences. Thank you for signing up and staying involved in your students and their education.
Complete work each day and get caught up in case you are absent. Please remember to bring ipads charged and ready every day. Help yourself form habits of good organization now so you’re ready for high school!
State testing happens the week of the 23rd. Be thinking of things you can do to make that run smoothly. A good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and frame of mind may prove to be as beneficial as lessons and activities from your classes.
4th quarter is a busy time for 8th graders. With high school selection, finals, and spring fever on the mind it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Take a breath, prioritize, and do your best. We believe in you. Enjoy spring break and finish strong!
Sincerely,
8B teachers
Team 8C/Equipo 8C
Students on Team 8C have had a very busy and exciting third quarter! Students in Ms. Wallin's science classes have been learning about space and the solar system. In Ms. Schumacher's mathematics classes, students mastered the Pythagorean Theorem and have been working on transformations of shapes. Additionally, in Mr. Pignatore's social studies classes, students have been learning about the American Civil War. English language arts students in Mrs. White's and Mrs. Wagner's classrooms have been reading various novels and are excited and intrigued to begin reading The Diary of Anne Frank during 4th quarter. We even had the opportunity to attend a play production of Anne Frank at The Rose Theater as an introduction to this novel!
During third quarter, the 8C Team teachers also met with students and families during our spring conferences. It was a great experience being able to talk and meet with so many families, and we loved strengthening our Redbird community.
As our 8th grade students prepare for high school, our goal is to finish the school year strong, especially during our state NSCAS and spring MAP testing! Success, achievement, respect...it's a Redbird thing!

RESPETO: Respeto quiere decir mantener nuestros pies y manos en nuestra area y no tocar a nadie mas. También es el seguir instrucciones y reglas.
INTEGRITY: Integrity is doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do.
SAFETY: Safety is creating a calm and orderly environment and letting adults know of problems
EMPATHY: Empathy is showing kindness and trying to help students see other perspectives and feelings.

Please help us work with your student by discussing RISE attributes at home. Our goal for your child is that they can be successful and learn, that your child is liked by others and has friends, that your child feels good about themselves and takes good care of themselves when overwhelmed with emotion.
REDBIRD BUCKS: At Norris we recognize students who demonstrate respect, integrity, safety, and kindness through Redbird Bucks. Redbird Bucks can be used to attend field trips with pizza parties, raffles for gift cards and prizes, and for items such as stickers, gel pens, pencils, etc. We want to recognize all of our amazing Redbirds who are doing the right things everyday.
