COVID RTL UPDATED SAFETY PLANS
Masks:
The Clear Creek Amana School Board voted 5 - 1 September 14th at a special board meeting to not require masks at school and wait until the final ruling from the 8th district circuit court. Board members were concerned with having consistency for the students and not switching back and forth if the ruling was changed.
At the September 15th meeting the school board discussed a date to revisit this if the courts have not taken any specific action and court proceedings are extended for an unknown period of time. The board agreed to hold a vote prior to the October 6th worksession or if necessary, hold a special meeting if there is a significant increase in COVID cases and/or staff absences warrant such a meeting.
The Clear Creek Amana Community School District strongly recommends masks and will continue to evaluate new information as we progress.
Will the schools do contact tracing this year? Will parents be notified if a child is considered a close contact?
Johnson County Public Health will no longer provide school contact tracing for districts that do not require quarantine. However, after further discussion with county public health, they will continue to support our efforts to notify families. CCA will continue our current practice of individual phone calls to families to notify them of a close contact within their child's classroom(s) and also district communications in lieu of the changes by Johnson County Public Health. Please see the link below from Iowa Department of Education, specifically question 5 in regard to contact tracing.

SEPTEMBER IS SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness on this stigmatized and often taboo topic. Suicidal thoughts, much like other mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, race, gender, or background. One of our district's goals is ensuring that students and families have access to resources they need to get help for and discuss mental health issues, including suicide prevention. So please know, you are not alone, and we are all here with you.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number is 800-273-8255. They are available to talk you through a crisis 24/7.
