2015-2017 H&S OFFICER ELECTIONS

Our H&S will hold its final general membership meeting on June 11th at 9:30AM in the LGI. At this meeting, we will elect our officers for the 2015-2017 school years. The H&S By-Laws state the elections need to take place at the last general membership meeting; therefore, members must be present to vote. The officer candidates' names, positions and bios follow.

TONYA HAWKINS - CANDIDATE FOR CO-PRESIDENT

My name is Tonya Hawkins. My son Darryl Hawkins, Jr. is a fourth grader at Bridge Valley Elementary. My husband and I moved to Pennsylvania in 2013 from Tampa, Florida. As a former Substitute Teacher for Polk County, Florida school district and an Etiquette Trainer, I've developed a passion for both our youth and community outreach. This passion has lead me to becoming a new business owner of Graceful Generations Etiquette Institute; in which, I teach character education for the youth and business etiquette for college students and businesses.

It is my belief that our youth are our future and I want to help groom graceful generations. It is also my belief that education partnered with good character are key ingredients to our children's true success academically and professionally. It is my duty to help Bridge Valley Elementary students become their best authentic selves that they'll prosper in every aspect of their lives.

It is my privilege and honor to serve Bridge Valley Elementary school in this capacity.

GABBY LOCKWOOD - CANDIDATE FOR CO-PRESIDENT

As a working mom of two children, I feel the second most important thing in a child's life is their school family and the experiences they have while at school.

I have loved my family's time at Bridge Valley and my husband and I made every effort possible when looking for a new home so that we stayed in the bridge valley family. During my 4 yrs at bridge valley I have been classroom coordinator for 3 yrs, 2 yrs on the science alive committee and this last year took over the position of chair for the passive fundraising committee. I graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in chemistry. For the past 10yrs I have worked for a chemical manufacturer doing Marketing and communications. I have also served as a board member for our development.

NAFISA JANE PATEL - CANDIDATE FOR CO-PRESIDENT

My name is Nafisa Jane Patel, and I am a mom, wife, pharmacist, business owner, and entrepreneur. The last few years have been quite a journey for me and my family and in that time I’ve discovered a joy in helping other families and people. I want to foster a change in our children’s way of life, promoting activities to help them grow to be well-rounded individuals. I firmly believe that our Elementary Schools help lay the foundations, outside of just the school curriculum, and the HSA here at our school helps do exactly that.

I have been a part of the Bridge Valley Community since my family moved here from Center City Philadelphia in 2008. I have 3 boys that are currently in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade here at Bridge Valley. They are in all sorts of activities and are very talented yet different in their own way. We experienced the efforts of the HSA over the past few years when I saw how it helped families of all different backgrounds come together at various events. Children are made to feel welcome and the families are helped and given a sense community.

I currently own the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Warminster, Pennsylvania where we service retail, Hospice, Long Term Care, and Compounded Medication patients. I am a two-year breast cancer survivor and am looking to pay it forward to the school that helped my children and I these last 2 years

I have experience in various positions including class officer in high school and college, and being on the board of our condo association when we lived in Philadelphia. In addition, as the owner and operator of Retail pharmacy, I have experience as an Employee, HR Manager, CEO, COO, and CFO. It has also given me experience in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Marketing, Advertising, Sales, and even Janitorial and Housekeeping services. You name it, I’ve done it!

I currently stay at home with my children and have spent the last few years volunteering at the school for different events such as the book fair, classroom activities, and I currently am a coach for the 5th graders “Just Run for Life” program. I want to give back to the school that helped us through a difficult situation so that I can help others and give back to my community.

MARY SLACK - CANDIDATE FOR TREASURER

My husband and I lived in the Northern VA/Washington DC Metro area for 18 years before we moved to Furlong PA with our three children, Maya (6th grade), Jasmine (4th) and Quinn (K). We have now been members of the Bridge Valley family for two years and from the beginning our experience has been wonderful, as the community has embraced our family in such a kind way. Prior to our move, my career included working as an Auditor at a public accounting firm and lastly as a Federal government Consultant supporting Oracle Accounting systems. Now in PA, I take care of our family and have been able to volunteer more this year at Bridge Valley which included working on the Flea Market fundraiser, being a class photographer, a coach with Just Running, and other volunteer efforts for my children’s classes. I look forward to continuing to volunteer at BVE and to be able to use my accounting background to assist the Home and School Association with the Treasurer position so we may support the teachers and staff with their needs to provide our students with a successful educational experience.

KATE TATE - CANDIDATE FOR PROFESSIONAL STAFF REPRESENTATIVE

Mrs. Tate is the current professional staff representative for the H&S and has volunteered to extend her position for another term. Mrs. Tate is currently a first grade teacher at Bridge Valley. She has also taught Kindergarten.
