Pictured Rocks Summer Adventure

Summer Fun

My Councilors Dory, Penny, myself and Rianna, my friend went on a backpacking trip in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in mid July. But to get there we needed to wake up at 4:00 am to leave in the camp van. While we were there we hiked past a lot of really cool rock formations. The views were spectacular, the water, a sensational blue, and the water was so clear you could see the bottom! I was doing because I was crazy, I was there to have fun and get away from my siblings for a little while.

The Science of it is...

The rocks deform over time according to the weather and people walking on the rocks. Over time and time again people walking on the rocks flatten them out and make them dull. Other times nature and its plants and trees can damage the rock by growing in the crevasses and growing sideways. Some of the rocks have fantastic color and shine to them, this happens because of layers of sand piling on each other to form and harden to a rock called sand rock, a kind of Sedimentary rock. The rock can form on many ways according how much tourists walk on them and how nature takes its course.

I wonder...???

How did the rock get its shape?

Where did the different colors of sand come from?

How did the rocks get piled on each other to form cliffs?

Why did the rocks have sand and water at the bottom where I can see other rocks?
