September 11 Update

It's been a wonderful week at Dunn! Thank you for supporting your children through DIBELS testing, joining us at the PTO meeting, picking up library books from Ms. Randi, and just supporting your children as we engage in inquiry through remote learning.


I know you are wondering what October will bring. As we hear from district what our next quarter's phase of learning will look like, I will share this with you. Additionally, look for an email from me next week asking for your feedback and your children's feedback on how remote instruction looks at your house. We are in the business of providing our students high quality instruction, and we value your perspective as we reflect on our practice and adjust.

Are you looking for a way to be involved in your child’s education and serve in an advisory capacity to Dunn’s principal and staff? We have just the opportunity for you!


The Dunn staff is looking for several parents to serve on Dunn’s School Improvement Team and Accountability Committee. The purpose of this team is to facilitate decisions affecting the school. Members of this committee include parents, a community representative, certified staff, classified staff, and the principal. This site-based team supports in advising the principal and staff in making decisions about the following:


  • Instruction (learning resources, student awards/recognition, enrichment activities)

  • Resources (budget development and evaluation, grant writing)

  • Management (community relations, communication, special events, safety)

  • Input in preparation of Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) and discussions regarding school’s progress in implementing team improvement plans in support of the building UIP


Members serving on this committee should reflect the diverse makeup of the Dunn student body.

Tech Support for Families

We will be sending out a request for information from students and families to determine what is working well and where we can improve. For technology and applications, PSD has created tutorials for families on commonly used programs. You can access that page from the front page of the Dunn website, as well. https://dun.psdschools.org/

Hi! We're McKay & Avery, fourth graders at Dunn Elementary. We're raising money to help our music teacher purchase ukuleles. Kids being able to create music during remote learning is so important! And, we know our community is so great that we'll be able to raise even more than what is needed for the ukes, so we're also hoping to donate money to The Matthews House.

The Matthews House is a local nonprofit that helps kids and families. For $1000, The Matthews House can provide two months of Homework Helpers, a program designed to support kids with school work and allow them a safe space to have fun. This year, with remote learning, kids need our help more than ever. Let's raise enough to give kids Homework Helpers for a whole year!

It's a GREAT time to join Dunn's PTO!

  • Any interested parents or caregivers can email us at dunnelementarypto@gmail.com
  • We are a small group and have small intimate meetings (typically less than 10 people). Currently virtual meetings, of course!
  • We primarily do dreaming, planning, connecting, monitoring event budgets, and approving teacher mini-grants.
  • If someone is organized, passionate, and willing to make agendas, send emails, and keep apprised of Dunn happenings, any open position on the PTO Board would be a good fit for them. Currently seeking Co-treasurer, VP, President.
