ISWA First Steps
Below you will find everything you need to get started!
Meet your Homeroom Teacher
Welcome!
Welcome to ISWA! My name is Ms. McGrath and I am so excited that you are in my Homeroom class this year. I hope you will always feel comfortable to use me as your first point of contact when you feel unsure about anything. I will be your Homeroom teacher for the year and am here to support you with:
- Feeling connected - to peers, teachers, resources, etc.
- Monthly Progress Conferences (MPCs) - held the first week of each month
- Working towards Satisfactory (SAT) standing - passing most your courses
- High School & Beyond Plans - required each year for graduation
- Creating a plan to succeed - established during MPC meetings
The steps below were created to help you, the Learning Coach and Student, to be the most prepared you could possibly be before school starts. Your journey at Insight School of Washington has begun! Please bookmark this page and take notice of our list of Important Resource links at the bottom of this newsletter. They are helpful all school year!
STEP 1: SET UP THE LEARNING COACH (LC) AND STUDENT ACCOUNT
Students, grab your Learning Coach (LC) to start this process!
- Learning Coaches are expected to log into this account at least once a week
As soon as you create an LC account, you can create the student account!
- Watch this short video overview of your student account!
STEP 2: CHANGE YOUR TIME ZONE SETTINGS
STEP 3 (FOR LEARNING COACHES): COMPLETE LEARNING COACH UNIVERSITY
STEP 4: DOWNLOAD BLACKBOARD LAUNCHER
Download this program to your computer so students can access live class connect sessions on their computer. Follow the link for instructions.
- Blackboard Launcher is the program that allows students to attend live virtual class sessions, also known as live class connect sessions. No need to open Blackboard each time to attend a live virtual session; it will open automatically.
- These sessions can be found in the Online High School under the Schedule tab of the left column when first logging in.
Every teacher holds REQUIRED (REQ) live class connect sessions each school week. It is very important that students attend all required sessions.
STEP 5: STRONG START REQUIREMENT
- Attend one "Welcome to ISWA Orientation" session
- Complete ORN005/010 - see more information below under "Step 7"
- Complete a Welcome Call from me, your homeroom teacher! (I will be calling from a 425 phone number! )
Welcome to ISWA Orientation options: All sessions are required

STEP 6: HOMEROOM ORIENTATION WEEK
The "My Schedule" tab can be accessed by logging into the Online High School, clicking on "My Schedule" in the left column, and selecting "Weekly" under view settings in the top right corner.
STEP 7: STUDENT'S FIRST ASSIGNMENT
Students are REQUIRED to complete a short online learning course by the end of the first week of school (Jan 13). It should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. This ORN005/ORN010 Online Learning: Middle and High School class will be found in the Student Account under the Classes tab. It should be available before school starts. All other courses will show up on the first day of school.
This class is a wonderful overview of the Online High School that will help you prepare for your first day at Insight. This course should be in your account now and ready for you to complete!
As always, please feel free to email me, Ms. McGrath, at samcgrath@k12insightwa.org with any questions, comments, or fun facts! I am really looking forward to working with you!
