Principal Newsletter of the Month

January Review
Our PBIS theme for the month was having a strong start to second semester and using problem solving to attack challenges. Mr. Dimmer, JLMS PBIS Internal Coach, once again directed a PBIS video that has Mr. Pfeiffer assisting me in solving a fruit dilemma that I am facing. The video is embedded at the bottom of this month's newsletter and was shown to students at the beginning of second semester.
The JLMS scheduling team presented at the January 22 board meeting and explained the process that was used to develop the schedule for the 2018-19 school year. If you would like to learn more about the schedule, there will be a parent presentation on Monday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m.
Your student will also be given the course information and choices when we begin the JLMS scheduling process in mid-February. They (6th & 7th grade students) will be bringing home a course registration sheet for next school year and you can have discussion about the related arts courses they will participate for next school year.
The following two links will show you the daily schedule and course options by grade level for the 2018-19 school year.
Our 8th grade students and families attended the GHS experience at the end of January to learn about freshmen course options, clubs, sports, music, and many other great opportunities that GHS offers to their student body. The 8th grade will begin the scheduling process for GHS on Friday, February 2.
The month ended will a great fundraising event hosted by the Grafton Education Foundation at the annual Soup-or-Bowl event hosted at Cedars III. It was a great night of fun and a lot money was raised to give back to teachers through grant applications to make a more dynamic and engaging learning environment. An example would be the VR googles that Mrs. Mathews received last year through the grant process and used this month to look at cells in 7th grade science.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has given access to practice tests and sample items. Like last year, we will have teachers work with students to understand how to use online testing tools and have them take a short practice test to prepare. Below is a link to the DPI's site for Forward test samples and practice tests. Please feel free to explore the link and see what is expected of students on the state test.
