Business Technology Applications

Course Overview

BTA is a one credit course designed to assist students in developing skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentations. We will use the internet frequently. We work on becoming good communicators by improving our writing skills and frequently presenting material to the class. We will also discuss ethics and careers.

College and Career Readiness

One of the goals in BTA is to help you develop the basic computer skills that you will need to survive college and to help you start off on the right foot in a job. When you arrive at college, they will expect that you already possess basic computer skills. BTA is where you learn those skills. Many jobs want employees to know basic word processing skills or they want employees to know how to use spreadsheets. This course will help you to be ready to step into a job and feel confident that you have the skills to get started.

Reminders and Announcements

If you and/or your parents would like to receive text messages with class reminders, announcements, etc., please text @schallbta to (256) 455-4611. By using this method, we don't have to share cell phone numbers.

Internet Safety

We will start out the year with a unit on Safety. We will cover some general safety precautions but we will focus on Internet Safety. In our society, it is more important than ever to be vigilant about staying safe on the internet. Cyberstalking and cyberbullying are becoming more and more prevalent in our society. How can you stay safe? That is what we will discuss. Bullying of any kind, in person or online, is unacceptable. If you or someone you know is being bullied, talk to an adult that you trust such as a parent or teacher or you can call or text the Leeds City Schools
