Principal's Message
October 20, 2017
Dear Willink Families,
Another gorgeous fall week is coming to a close. I am still amazed with the luck we are having weather-wise. I hope you have been able to take advantage of some time outside. Our modified sports teams continue to enjoy the weather as well. I was speaking to a few of the soccer players the other day and they were commenting on how nice it is to not be playing in cold temperatures and rain!
Tonight is our first big dance of the year! The Halloween dance is always well attended. Ticket sales have been brisk. Remember, costumes are optional. However, if you chose to wear one, please make sure that you look over the guidelines in your child's agenda. Full masks and play weapons like light sabers, plastic swords, and so on should be left at home. You can still be a storm trooper or a pirate without them. The dance runs from 7:30-9:00.
Red Ribbon Week kicked off today and will continue all next week. Today, we asked students to think about what the keys are to being drug and alcohol free. They then wrote these thoughts on red keys and they are going to be displayed outside the classroom doors. Next time you are in the building, check them out. There will be a theme each day:
- Monday; staying drug and alcohol free is no sweat. (sweatshirt and sweatpant attire)
- Tuesday; stay drug and alcohol free both inside and out. (inside out day)
- Wednesday; Neon day
- Thursday; Titans stay drug and alcohol free. (Titan wear)
- Friday; Wear red to show you will stay drug and alcohol free. (red, red, red!)
This coming Monday, October 23rd, 6th-grade students will have a chance to compete in the annual Pumpkin Run! All 6th-grade students are encouraged to participate. The run consists of two laps around our athletic fields. Titan Cross Country athletes will be in attendance to run with them as well as encourage them. It is a great event and typically attracts about 150 students. Please encourage your child to participate.
As we approach week 8 of the marking period, it is very important that you are checking your child's academic progress on the parent portal. This way you will know exactly how your child is doing and if they are in need of extra support. If you notice any areas of concern, please contact your child's teacher directly. Your child's counselor can also be of assistance. If you need help accessing the parent portal, please see the directions later in this newsletter.
On Wednesday, October 25th, all 8th-grade students (and their parents) who are going on this year's Washington DC trip need to attend a very important meeting at 6:30 pm. Students will meet with their chaperones in their assigned room and parents will meet with Mr. Gindling and Mr. McBride in the Cafetorium. Room assignments will be posted in the hallways as well as shared in Social Studies classes. This is a mandatory meeting as we will be going over the final details for the trip. If you have any questions, contact Mr. McBride at 670-1040.
Have a great weekend!
Jim
