Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens was a popular writer during the Victorian Era. His father had problems with money and had to go to jail. Charles had to do work to make money for his family. Once he got older he became a writer. He wrote fourteen novels over his career. One of those was A Christmas Carol. He wrote A Christmas Carol based on his life. One Christmas he had financial problems so he wrote a book about it. He never knew it was going to be so popular.
Victorian Era
The Victorian Era came to be because Queen Victoria (niece of King William IV) died.The Victorian Era was between 1837 and 1901. During the Victorian Era they made new machines, like the steam engine. They also developed railroads, telegraph, and new uses for iron and steel. There was about 30,000 families homeless and child labor was common.
