Sequoia Elementary Newsletter
School News and Updates
This week you should have received a flyer about our 2nd annual Read-A-Thon and information on setting up your child's Read-A-Thon Dashboard! Please use this week or weekend to get your child's account set up before the start of our Read-A-Thon Fundraiser on Tuesday, February 19th. Once your child's account is set up, it's easy to collect donations from family and friends and log reading sessions each day. Funds raised will go toward field trips, assemblies, science, our school garden and more!
To add a little competition of our Read-A-Thon, I am giving our students a challenge of reading 12 million words during the 10 days of reading (Feb. 19th-Mar 4th)! Last year they beat my 10 million word challenge so I think they are up for it! The highest earning classrooms in primary and upper grade will get extra recess with me. I am also encouraging everyone to take part in a Reading Spirit Week that will start on February 25th and end on March 1st, Read Across America Day! Read Across America Day always coincides with Dr. Seuss' Birthday on March 2nd. See below for more details on our Seuss Themed Spirit Week...
Monday, Feb. 25th - One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish - Wear Red or Blue or Both!
Tuesday, Feb. 26th - The Cat in the Hat - Wear stripes or your favorite hat!
Wednesday, Feb. 27th - The Lorax - Wear a funny mustache (mustaches provided for all students and staff by Sequoia Parents Club)
Thursday, Feb. 28th - Fox in Sox - Wear crazy or mismatched socks
Friday - March 1st (Read Across America Day) - Wear your favorite PJ's for a "Read-In" day!
If you have questions about your dashboard or code, please email McCall Miller at email@example.com
As a reminder, we will have early dismissal at 1:55pm on Friday, February 22nd due to completion of trimester 2. Report cards will go home on March 1st and spring conferences will be the week of March 4-8th. Spring conferences are as needed and not required for all students. Teachers will be in touch if they'd like to hold a conference at that time.
Yearbook dedications are a great way for parents, families and friends
to commemorate student achievements and important milestones.
If you would like to include a dedication for your student in this year's
yearbook, please submit no more than 25 words to the yearbook
staff @ firstname.lastname@example.org.
The cost is $5, payable by check to the SPC including a print out of the
dedication emailed to yearbook staff. Space is
limited so please turn them into the office by Friday, March 4th.
Dedications will be included on a first-come first-served basis.
Email email@example.com with any questions.
