20 years of European public health
We are in a pivotal moment for health and populations. The prolonged economic downturn has collided with the demographic timebomb and a pandemic of chronic disease. Few policy makers in 1993 when the Maastricht Treaty enshrined a public health competence into European law would have been able to envisage the changes and challenges of the last two decades, and as we move into yet another period of change and unnecertainty we should must on the past, and plan for the future.
