MARCH BIRTHDAY MASS TOMORROW
CURRICULUM CORNER by Blair Tadlock
During the Mardi Gras holiday, our Renaissance learning programs were upgraded to the NEW Renaissance Growth Platform. This new platform gives our teachers more capabilities within Renaissance and allows our students to have a new learner experience within the various programs they use. As part of this new platform, programs such as Math Facts in a Flash as well as Accelerated Math that we have used in the past will be decommissioned at the end of this school year. The new mathematics program that many students have started to use this year and will use next year exclusively is called Freckle. This new program blends Math Facts in a Flash features of automaticity and fluency with Accelerated Math features of varied mathematical practice tailored to specific learners and groups. Freckle also allows our teachers to be able to review various math data points easily to more directly impact student learning. It is important to note that this upgrade also changed the URL used to access the HomeConnect feature of the Renaissance Growth Platform. The new address to the ICCS HomeConnect is https://global-zone51.renaissance-go.com/studentprogress/homeconnect?t=210200 Please use this to access Renaissance HomeConnect. We look forward to exploring the new features with our students during the last quarter of this school year.
MERCY MATTERS by Rose Viau
During the month of March we celebrate two important saints.
March 17 is the Feast Day of St. Patrick. Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland because he was the one who taught the Irish people about God. According to legend, he used a shamrock to explain about God. Saint Patrick told the people that the shamrock, which has three leaves and one stem, was like the Trinity – that in the one God (the shamrock stem) there are three (leaves of the shamrock) divine beings: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
March 19 is the Feast Day of St. Joseph. A descendant of King David, St. Joseph was a carpenter in Nazareth. But St. Joseph’s most important job was to care for Jesus and also Mary. He protected them from King Herod by taking them to Egypt, where they would be safe. Later he provided a loving home for them in Nazareth. St. Joseph always said yes to what God called him to do. He was humble, pure, gentle and wise. Let us look to the example of St. Joseph and do what God calls us to do.
St. Patrick, pray for us.
St. Joseph, pray for us.

RENAISSANCE HOME CONNECT WEBSITE CHANGE
Over the Mardi Gras holiday, our school was upgraded to the NEW Renaissance Growth Platform. This new platform brings new features and revamps older features of Renaissance to make it more user friendly. Because of this upgrade, our hosted site for Renaissance Home Connect has changed. The NEW URL is linked below. Please update any bookmarks you may have in your browser to this new address as the old one no longer works. Parents and students can also access Home Connect through Mrs. Heffer's Library website or their homeroom teacher's website.

CLASSROOM NEWS:
3RD GRADE HABITAT PBL
Our 3rd Grade students recently completed a PBL sparked from the informational text, “Crinkleroot’s Guide to Knowing Animal Habitats” found in their reading series. Each student used resources, both print and online, to build a simulated animal habitat. The research was compiled in outline form and expressed through an informative report using Google Docs. The students used photographs and narrative recordings to present their research and ideas. Click on the link below to view their work by the student's first name.
The purpose of the project was to use informative writing and digital presentation to demonstrate how an animal depends upon its environment.

YOUNG ENGINEERS SOCIETY
At the ICCS Young Engineers Society meeting this week, the members learned that Leonardo DaVinci was not only one of the greatest artists of all time, but was also a great self-taught engineer! His detailed designs are recorded in his notebooks.
Mr. Raymond Phillips, an ICCS parent, taught the group how to build a self-supporting bridge, constructed without any nails, glue or rope, only physics. These bridges were constructed by the army to quickly cross streams using materials on hand.
The kids were able to build these “real life” bridges that could hold their own weight.
