NOACSC Quarterly Newsletter

3rd Quarter - 2022

From the Executive Director,

You made it! Another school year is in the books. Congratulations!

I have met many of you, either at a meeting, in your district, or in our office. However, I've not met everyone. I would love to connect with you so if you would like me to stop by your district, please send me an email. My contact information is at the bottom of this newsletter.

Our customer satisfaction survey results were very positive. We were glad that 88% of you gave us a 4 out of 4 rating for overall satisfaction. We are using the results from the survey to make improvements for the 2022-23 school year. Thank you for your valuable feedback.

We appreciate your partnership with us. Recently you should have received estimates for your district for FY23. If there are any questions or concerns, please reach out to us. Our fees for the upcoming school year have been updated on our website. To review the updated fee schedule, visit here.

Finally, if you would like to use our facility or have a team member come to your district for your beginning of the year activities, reach out to us. Remember, we're here to serve you! Also, make sure you're aware of all of our beginning of the year trainings. Those are also listed on our website.

Have a great summer!

Ben

New Staff

NOACSC has recently added two new staff members to our team.

Aundrea Fricke joins the Fiscal Services Team beginning July 5, 2022. Aundrea comes to NOACSC from Ohio Northern University where she served in their purchasing department for the past 14 years. She is an ONU graduate with a B.S. in Business Administration majoring in Management.

Sherry Grieser joins the EMIS Services Team beginning July 19, 2022. Sherry has served as EMIS secretary at Findlay High School for the past 19 years. She is a graduate of Owens Community College and holds an Associates degree in Microcomputer Business Systems.

FinalForms

As was previously announced, all FinalForms invoicing will now be done by each ITC in Ohio. If you have a current or new agreement with FinalForms, you will receive an invoice from NOACSC around August 1, 2022. This will be separate from your fall services invoice. With this changeover, we want to ensure accuracy of invoices for this first go around. Please review them carefully.

If you are not using FinalForms but are interested, please contact Dave Baker at dave@finalforms.com for a quote.

Remind - Special Pricing

NOACSC has a partnership with Remind for special pricing. If you are interested in using Remind as your messaging app, please contact Ben for pricing details. Multi-year discounts are available. For information regarding Remind, visit www.remind.com.

Team Updates

Student Services

Transcripts, report cards, and honor rolls have wrapped up for the year, and we hope you are all enjoying your start of summer! Even though the school year is over, our open labs are still open all year. These are scheduled on demand, for any topic(s) of your choice. To schedule email student.support@noacsc.org

We are quickly beginning to transition for preparing for the beginning of the 2022-2023 year. Please send us any report card updates as soon as possible, so those changes are ready before your school year begins. The Beginning of the Year Meetings and our 2022-2023 Training Schedule have been posted to the NOACSC website. If you have not yet registered for a BOY Meeting, you can do so now; and, if you cannot attend a meeting, the Zoom session will be recorded.

GradeBook: Expect notifications from us regrading the GradeBook Rollover, integration, and the GradeBook Back to School Checklist in July.

Schoology: We have turned off your 2021-2022 auto-imports. Please contact us when you would like your 2022-2023 auto-imports setup.

Enjoy the rest of your summer! We look forward to seeing a lot of you in August!

EMIS Services

NOACSC is pleased to offer an application for purchase called CrossCheck. It was developed by META Solutions as a user-friendly way to check data from the Data Collector. It includes helpful checks that are not currently being done by ODE. We plan to offer a short demo of this product in the fall via Zoom. Superintendents, Treasurers, Special Ed staff and EMIS Coordinators may be especially interested in learning about this product. It is low cost for the value it provides - $1.00 per student with a $1500 min and a $3500 max. We currently have several NOACSC districts using CrossCheck and they have all been very pleased with this product.

Even though school is out, EMIS Coordinators still have a lot of 21-22 data to report to ODE over the summer. Several major collections are closing on July 13th. These include the End of Year Student, the Spring EOC assessment and the Spring State Assessment grades 3-8 collections. The Calendar Collection, the Staff/Course Collection and a number of assessment collections close on August 5th. There are some additional Assessment collections that close in the later weeks of August as well. EMIS Coordinators may need to contact other staff members, such as Special Ed Supervisors, Counselors and Testing Coordinators, in order to report complete and accurate data.

Fiscal Services

Spring brings change and it has on the fiscal team as well. Larry Kaiser announced he is becoming the treasurer of Continental schools as of July 1. Larry will be greatly missed but we are excited for this new position for him. The fiscal team is welcoming Aundrea Fricke as the newest member. Aundrea brings with her 14 years of experience from Ohio Northern University where she was a Purchasing supervisor for the past 7 years. We are very excited to welcome Aundrea aboard. Congratulations Aundrea!

Second Quarter also brings the Fiscal team into the Fiscal year-end preparations for districts. The fiscal team had a budget training session for districts to help those who haven’t created a budget yet in the new software and a refresher for those who have. Also, the fiscal team had fiscal year-end training sessions. These sessions help prepare districts closing the accounting books for fiscal year-end and payroll. This is a very busy time for district treasurers’ offices as they prepare everything from retirements and severance pays to STRS Advance reporting to setting up everything needed for grants in the new fiscal year. We are here to help through all of those unique situations that arise during this busy time of the year.

Jon Pyles the fiscal team’s own developer created additional graph reports. Thank you Jon as a good graph is a very useful tool for treasurers to show the financial information to their boards.

Just a reminder: Our support email is: fiscal.support@noacsc.org, our phone number is: 419 228-7417 option 3 is for fiscal.

Big picture

Network Services

Internet Connection Upgraded

On Thursday June 23rd, OARnet installed new network equipment to upgrade the NOACSC connection from 10Gbs to 100Gbs. The network handoff to NOACSC will be 40Gbs, but a 100Gbs port will be available to use in the future if Internet usage exceeds 40Gbs. At times last school year we were close to maxing out the 10Gbs internet connection. In preparation for this, in December of 2021, NOACSC installed a new Firewall. These upgrades will allow us to keep up with the rising Internet traffic demand.

Cyber Security Training

Our first training in a series of trainings centered around cyber security was held online on June 16. Over 40 people participated in the training, which was centered on active directory security. The feedback we received was extremally positive. Join our next session on August 18 at 1:30 p.m. online where the focus will be on multi-factor authentication.

EDR - Carbon Black

Pricing was recently release for Carbon Black EDR. The pricing comes through negotiations with OARnet on behalf of ITCs and school districts. We recommend taking advantage of this special pricing, which will expire on October 31, 2022. Multi-year options are available and we recommend taking advantage of this opportunity. If you have any questions regarding EDR or Carbon Black, please reach out to a member of the network team.
