Cougar Collaboration
Writing with Technology @ Cross County Schools
Elementary
Popplet
Popplet is a simple graphic organizer used for prewriting.
Book Creator
The students worked collaboratively to write a story of their choice. They were allowed time to draft their story, then publish on the Book Creator App. Knowing they were publishing their stories electronically, pushed students to make many improvements in their writing. Also, using Book Creator, the students were able to add photos, videos, and sounds, making their stories come to life.
iBook
When students were finished with their stories, they shared them with the rest of the class by adding them to their iBook shelf. We were not ready to "publish" these for the world to share, so we chose to email them to each other.
Collaboration
Peer collaboration was part of the project involving high school students working with fifth graders to assist in editing. The Junior English class also participated in a Kid Blog with fourth grade students to encourage writing.
Middle School
Middle School Transition Book
One of the big issues facing the Middle School Student Council this year was building community amongst the students in grades 6-8. In order to accomplish this they created a project using iBooks Author to help incoming 6th graders and their parents be more at ease with the transition. This project will be utilized during our "Double Stuff Day" when the 5th graders visit the Middle School for the afternoon. Each 5th grader will have an iPad with the project on iBooks so they can read about their new teachers and the experiences they can expect in Middle School. It will also be utilized during the parent meeting to assist parents in learning about Middle School as well. This is an evolving project so they hope to add onto it in the future.
High School
Sophomore English
Sophomores created multimedia writing portfolios using iBook Author. The portfolios include written work, artwork, photography, and audio files such as the student's recorded voice or free use music.
Tellagami
Students used the Tellagami app to create avatars with videos explaining different steps of the writing process.
Tackk
A quick and simple way to create and share an online poster or flyer. Students utilized Tackk.com as a presentation tool for an evaluation of the writing project.
Weebly, Wix, and Webs
Free online web hosting sites were used for students to create instructional web sites to prepare for State Writing tests.
