COUNSELOR CORNER

Evaluation Test for Spanish Speakers - 8th graders

The Woodlands High School 9th Grade Campus offers two specialty Spanish classes Because we have a growing Spanish-speaking population, we have recently created two Spanish classes for heritage or native Spanish speakers: Spanish III Honors for Native Speakers (5 point GPA), and Spanish AP for Native Speakers (6 point GPA).

These classes meet the needs of our Spanish-speaking students by teaching proper writing and grammar, but excluding basic vocabulary and comprehension skills. To be admitted to one of these classes, students must sign up for an evaluation which will take place at McCullough at 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 13th, in the upstairs E Hallway classrooms.

To register your child for the assessment, please click on the link below. Deadline to register is Tuesday, April 12th. Those registered will receive an email confirmation with further details. Once evaluated, eligible students will be given the option to sign up for the class they’ve qualified for. If you have any further questions, please contact Jackie Mugica at jmugica@conroeisd.net or Lety Marin at lmarin@conroeisd.net.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXTRA HELP

Morning Tutoring

Students should check with their classroom teacher for tutorial location and availability per subject. Morning tutorials begin at 8:05 a.m.

PAWS After-School Tutoring - Thursdays are now available

What: An after-school study hall where students can have time specifically set aside to complete their homework or get help in different subjects. We will have McCullough teachers available to help.

Where: PAWS is held after school in the downstairs library.

When: Monday-Thursday from 4:10-5:00

What should I bring? Come prepared with homework and any supplies you might need. Be sure you have enough to work on until 5:00. Students will not be dismissed early from PAWS and must remain in the library the entire time.

How do I get home? A parent or guardian must pick you up at 5:00 p.m. at the front of the building when PAWS is over. There is no late bus. All students from PAWS will leave together and go to the covered horseshoe at the front of the building to wait for their ride.

SPARKS Peer Tutoring During Advisory

McCullough students will have the opportunity to seek help from a S.P.A.R.K. Peer Tutor on the first green day of the week (excluding Mondays) during advisory. S.P.A.R.K stands for Supportive Peers as Resources of Knowledge. They consist of carefully chosen 8th grade students who provide encouragement, motivation and support for other McCullough students who need assistance in completing homework assignments, studying for tests, learning basic study or organizational skills, and developing better time management skills. The program began over 10 years ago at McCullough and has returned after a brief hiatus during COVID.

Please click HERE if you would like to sign your student up to receive peer tutoring.
