Superintendent's Corner

July 2022

As I begin the year as your Interim Superintendent, I want to share a bit of my story with you so you have an idea of who I am, and why I am so excited to be here working with all of you.

I was born and raised across the river in Claremont, NH. I grew up in a big family with four sisters and one brother. From the time I was very young, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. One of my favorite pastimes was to play 'school' with my siblings and the other kids in our neighborhood. When we played, I would always convince the group to let me be the teacher.

My passion for teaching carried through my teenage years. I worked at summer camps with kids and then attended Keene State College to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I was the first in my family to attend college, which helped pave the way for my younger siblings to attend as well.

I married Jason Bourne in 1990 and we started a family soon after. We settled in Cornish, NH and raised our three children there. Our kids all enjoyed being part of Windsor Recreation Athletic Programs from the time they could join teams, and two of our children attended and graduated from Windsor High School. While Jason and I we were raising our three children, I was also teaching. I taught elementary school for twenty-two years and loved every minute of it. I earned a Master's Degree in School Administration in 2014 from New England College and started as the Principal of Hartland Elementary School in 2017.

My five years as the Principal at Hartland were incredible! I experienced many things that helped me grow my skills as a leader, and I built strong relationships with students, staff, and community members. At the Hartland School level and Supervisory Union level, I worked to implement comprehensive systems to support the growth and development of the whole child, while also ensuring that the unique needs of each and every child were met.

My goals for the coming year are to continue to build relationships with students, families, and community members across the SU, and to continue the work of implementing our Strategic Plan. Some of the priorities of this work include creating inclusive environments where all students and staff feel a sense belonging and ownership in our schools, and cultivating and lifting the voices of our students to increase student success and engagement.

I believe in kids. I am passionate about education. I am driven to make a positive difference in the lives of all of our children and families. I ascribe to the belief that 'we are stronger together' and feel it is my responsibility to bring students, staff, families, and communities together to ensure that we are creating educational experiences for our students that promote high achievement and healthy development of our kids.

I look forward to meeting all of you and learning your stories.
