Our Flight Pattern
For Rising 7th Graders: Sycamore Junior High Summer Reading
Help prevent summer reading loss by reading a great book! Studies have shown that reading proficiency levels can decrease over the summer. To help lessen the loss of reading skills, students at Sycamore Junior High are encouraged to keep reading all summer. All of the language arts classes at the junior high have summer reading expectations. Assignments and instructions are located in Google Classrooms that students access using their Sycamore student accounts. See below for the Google Classroom codes. All summer reading assignments are due on the first day of school.
Honors Language Arts 7
Students enrolling in Honors Language Arts 7 for the 2020-2021 school year need to use the Google Classroom code fjnujob to access the summer reading assignment and instructions. Students must use their Sycamore provided student account to join the Google Classroom.
Language Arts 7 and 8
Students enrolling in Language Arts 7/8 for the 2020-2021 school year need to use the Google Classroom code h7zzngf to access the recommended summer reading. Students must use their Sycamore provided student account to join the Google Classroom.
End of Year Information
Specials Classes for Rising 6th graders will stay the same next year. If you would like to make a change, please email gouldm@sycamoreschools.org to make this happen. You will need to indicate the class you would like to add as well as what you would like to drop.
Advanced Art for Rising 6th Grade
We have determined the process for student placement into Advanced Art at the Greene School for the 2020-2021 school year. Advanced Art is a program for visual arts students who demonstrate an extraordinary interest in the development of their skill and creativity. The class is designed for artistically talented students who strive for more depth of knowledge and have a willingness to be challenged.
All students who are in Advanced Art currently and wish to remain in the program will automatically have this class placed in their schedule. If you do not wish to be in the course, email gouldm@sycamorecschools.
If your child was not in Advanced Art this year and wishes to be considered, you will need to complete the form linked below. We will not be able to accept responses after May 15, 2020, at 11:59 pm. Your child’s 5th-grade art teacher will be referencing work completed in their general art class, as well as, the criteria on the form to determine if your child fits the characteristics of a student who would be successful in Advanced Art. All students who are selected for Advanced Art will be scheduled in it and will drop Multimedia Explorations. The art teachers will use the email listed on the form to communicate the result of your child’s placement.

Class Placement
We are currently working on class placement for next school year. We typically communicate your child's homeroom teacher for next year near the end of this school year. Due to not being in the building, this process will be delayed. We hope to send an email to you over the summer to inform you of your child's 6th grade homeroom teacher.

Students will return books and other items to tables that will be available in areas near their lockers.
If your child does not need to retrieve items from their locker, there is no need to attend to return books or other school items at this time.
If you are unable to attend, but would like to retrieve items from your child’s locker, email gouldm@sycamoreschools.org and a time will be arranged.
Yearbooks
We have not yet received yearbooks from this school year. Our current plan is to distribute them once students return to the school building.
End of the Year
The last day for remote learning will be May 15. Teachers will be planning activities to help provide an end of year experience the best we can given the current circumstances. Since we will not be back in the building this year, we will not be having field day, class picnics, or the 6th Grade Celebration.
