Thank you for your continued efforts at home to help your children. This school year has been challenging in so many ways and we appreciate all of the hard work that our families have done. We look forward to our continued partnership during 2nd Semester.

Northside Academic Challenge for 2nd Semester
The Northside Staff would like to issue an Academic Challenge for each student to spend one hour a week outside of school working on Reflex Math or Map Accelerator. Utilizing these programs for one hour a week on top of the normal Math instruction will help your child improve their mental math and allow them to be better prepared for the next grade level. These programs help struggling learners catch up and enrich students who are ahead. Each month fun incentives will be given to celebrate the hard work of those who have accomplished their goal of four hours per month. If you have any questions please contact your child’s teacher.
Kindergarten will have a slightly different challenge. Our challenge is to have each Kindergarten student to read or listen to 30 books each month. Reading with your child is the single most important thing you can do with them at this age. To qualify for the incentive you will give your teacher a list of the books that have been read that month.
Incentives:
· 1st successful month: Teacher Provided Incentive
· 2nd successful month 2: Donut from the Geneseo Donut Shop
· 3rd successful month: An extra 30 minute recess
· 4th successful month: Pizza Party
· 5th successful month: Pie in the face. Any student who has successfully completed 5 months of their math goal will get to pick a staff member and put a pie in their face. (Choices include but are not limited to classroom teachers, Mr. Mowen, Mrs. Ford, Specials Teachers, Dr. Brumbaugh)
If 75% of Northside successfully completes their Math goal in 4 of the 5 months, Northside will conduct a special vote to determine which color to dye Mr. Mowen’s hair.
Notes from the Nurse
When students arrive at Northside for in person learning, they will have their temperature checked. If it is 100.4 or higher, they will be sent home.
If your child develops any new COVID-like symptoms while at school, they will also be sent home and need to be evaluated. These include:
- fever - vomiting
- headache - diarrhea
- shortness of breath - abdominal pain
- cough - congestion/runny nose
- sore throat - loss of sense of taste or smell
- nausea - fatigue
- muscle or body aches
If your child develops any of these COVID-like symptoms while at home, please call them in on the attendance line or the front office to let the school know. We are required to follow the guidelines set by the IDPH for evaluating COVID like symptoms. We will make the determination on when your child can return to in person learning after speaking with you.
If you have a sick child at home and more than one student in the school district, regardless of the grade level, ALL students in the family need to stay home until you have spoken with a school nurse.
If any member of the household is testing for COVID, the children should stay home until test results are back.
If you find out your child was exposed to a positive case or probable case of COVID or gets a positive COVID test, please keep them home and call the school to let us know . Students in quarantine or isolation will be switched over to remote learning during that time. We are working along side the Health Department to determine the safest return to school date for each case.
Please call the school at anytime if you have any questions.
