Hamilton Elementary
Friday Updates for September 7, 2018
Thank you for such an amazing start to the 2018-2019 school year! I hope that you were able to take a few minutes during Lions Express/Meet the Teacher to notice our beautiful renovations! There are still a few things to finish up, but for the most part, everything has been completed.
As part of our renovation, our vestibule (front entry) is in the process of being enhanced. Once the construction work is completed, I will provide more information on how the new safety protocols will be implemented.
Safety is always our number one priority. When visiting Hamilton, please remember the following:
- All visitors are required to ring the door buzzer and wait for the doors to be unlocked by front office staff before entering the vestibule. Please do not hold the door for the next person -I know, this feels rude and unkind, but is necessary for safety.
- Every visitor is required to provide identification when checking in at the front office. Please have your driver's license with you and ready to show.
- Allow plenty of time for the front office staff to help you. Our check-in/out process will always remain the same and can take time, particularly during busy times.
- Keep drop-offs for lunches and other items to a minimum. Hamilton staff is not available to deliver items to students.
- Thank you in advance for being kind and courteous to our Hamilton staff! We are all working hard to help provide your child with a safe learning environment.
This year, CFISD has moved to a Standard Response Protocol for student safety. It is based on five actions: Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter and Hold. Today your child came home with a flyer providing more details on what these mean and how we will use these actions during our drill practices during the year and any emergency situations.
Thank you so much for helping to provide a positive learning environment for our Hamilton Lions. I am truly proud to serve the Hamilton community!
Kind regards,
Mrs. Conn

Library News
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! The Hamilton Library is a busy place, and we need volunteers to serve our students and staff. Please sign up for “Library Volunteer” through PTO Manager for opportunities to help with class check out, author visits, book fairs, Name That Book, Birthday Books, and other special events throughout the year.
LENDING TO LEARN – In conjunction with the CFISD 2014 Bond, an AT&T grant was secured allowing campuses to fund Chromebooks and Kajeet wifi access points for students to use at home. Kajeet is the leading filtered Internet service in the nation and will monitor and filter access to the internet. For students to take home one of 20 Hamilton Chromebooks and/or Kajeet devices overnight, the permission slip must be on file in the library. Then complete a Request Form each day you want your child to bring the devices home.
BIRTHDAY BOOKS – The Birthday Book program is back. No matter when the birthday is, NOW is the time to order a Birthday Book. When you make a $20 donation to the library, your child will be invited to select a new book to be place on the shelf in his/her honor! This program is optional, so click on the form below if you are interested. Payment must be made by September 14, 2018 through School Cash in order to receive a Birthday Book this school year.
SUSAN STEVENS CRUMMEL is coming to visit all LS, PPCD, PRE-K, K, AND 1st grade classes on October 15th! Order forms for autographed books will be sent home soon.
Mark your calendars for our FALL SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR November 2nd thru the 9th! We will need volunteers to make this event a success, so please sign up as a Library Volunteer in PTO Manager.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Many of our past and current Lions have different forms of cancer. To show our support for all kids facing cancer, we are asking our Lion family to GO GOLD on Thursday, September 13th. So break out the yellow and gold bling and help our warriors shine! We are also offering 2 additional ways to show your support.
1. Bring in a NEW toy or $10 gift card to be donated to the treasure boxes at Texas Children’s Hospital and MD Anderson Hospital. We will accept donations through September 28th.
2. Register to walk with Team Cypress Strong at Light the Night downtown Houston. The walk takes place on October 27th, but NOW is the time to register and show your support for our Cypress-area students facing Leukemia and Lymphoma. Click the link to go to the registration page: Cypress Strong Light the Night
If you have any questions about going GOLD, donations, or Light the Night, please contact our librarian (and mom to a Leukemia warrior) at jennifer.lucas@cfisd.net.
