LET THE FESTIVITIES (AND FESTIVUS) BEGIN!
Students in the ACE Program worked hard to make their hallway festive for the holiday season!
6th graders helped decorate their hallway.
Even though the 8th grade students could not attend their annual New York City field trip this year, we still wanted them to experience the excitement of the city during this magical holiday season so some dedicated elves have brought New York City to CMHS!
We hope you have enjoyed watching the foyer transform into Rockefeller Center!
A couple of Mr. Martin's festive sweaters!

HAPPY FESTIVUS!

This week Ms. Whalen’s 8th grade science students got to analyze real fossil on their in-person days! Students recorded measurements, observations, and inferences in their digital notebooks, then drew sketches on paper.
On Thursday, Ms. Whalen’s 7th grade zoology class got to Zoom with a scientist guest speaker, Dr. Caitlin Fisher-Reid. She is a professor at Bridgewater State University that studies salamanders!

This week, Mrs. Bardetti’s homeroom found Edgar hiding behind the birthday board and among a stack of new books! Where will he end up next week? #PoeOnTheGo
The STEM Classes have been experimenting with advanced laboratory techniques such as Micropipetting and Electrophoresis. Here are some of the Food Coloring separation results the students got from the Electrophoresis chambers they built.
The students continued to show off their prowess with micropipettes by layering extremely small volumes of solutions to produce beautiful rainbow density ladders.
Mr. Martin even joined us to try his hand at the difficult skill of micropipetting, and did Carver proud!

Students in Mr. Arruda's 8th Grade Engineering Class recently enjoyed a day outside launching their model rockets. As a part of the project students learned about rocket science, 3D printed their own nose cone and fin designs and had a chance to launch their model rockets out on the softball field. Some of the rockets flew as high as 1200ft!!! A special thanks to Tom Maher, the Plymouth Airport Manager, for spending time with us to help manage local air traffic and keep things safe! We look forward to launching rockets again in the Spring

MOCK TRIAL
Carver Middle High School Mock Trial adapts as the actual court system has adapted to COVID -19 by keeping all safe, learning all the work-arounds and new skills, and having some fun in the process - Mock Trial via the hot tub is pretty sweet! Look closely. We go to trial for the three usual competitions in the preliminary rounds but this time, we have no regions - we could be up against the state champions from 2019 in our very first trial!
We are actively seeking a tech master - a completely new role that has no points at stake - the person who cues documents, exhibits, and whatever else the attorneys need to share during the trial. If you know Zoom and can organize documents to have ready on demand, Mock Trial needs you! Join the team now. . . email Mrs. Perkins @ perkinsj@carver.org

ESPORTS
Congratulations to the Carver ESports Team on a great first season! Both the Rocket League (4-1, 13-4) and League of Legends (4-6) squads finished just outside of the playoff brackets despite getting a late start to the season. Both teams had a strong showing during the last week of the season and are primed to be competitive in the upcoming Spring season starting in February!
The ESports Team is looking to add players to our roster for the Spring Season where we'll be taking part in Rocket League, League of Legends, Super Smash Bros and Overwatch. Please contact Mr. Arruda or Mr. Cartmill for more information or if you'd like to sign up

Along with Carver Cares, the Plymouth and Brockton Area Prevention Collaboratives have teamed up to host a Virtual Story Time on Monday December 21, 2020 from 6:30-7:30pm via Zoom.
During the first half hour of this event, elementary aged youth are encouraged to listen to two stories written by local authors/organizations Sarah Cloud (Penning for Hope) and Theresa Harmon (To The Moon and Back). The stories Sam the Superhero and his Super Life and Mama Paca: My Heart Won't Let You Go address concerns around family substance use, grief, and loss, and leave behind messages of hope and resilience for elementary aged youth.
While these heavy topics are not something that any one single story can completely capture, the goal in addressing these themes at a young age is to ensure youth know this is a safe topic to ask questions around. In addition, creating common language by using age appropriate terms helps build a foundation for continuing this conversation in the future. The second half hour of this event will be an opportunity for adults to "Meet the Authors" and ask questions around these topics. In addition, there will be staff with expertise in the field of behavioral health who can provide support around any questions or concerns that may arise. An elementary appropriate activity will be emailed out prior to the event for youth to have something to work on while adults listen in on the Q&A.
Register in advance for this webinar:
https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Xz1VWplESdShqPMKLarz9Q
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. The first 25 registrants will receive a free copy of each book! Please feel free to share with any elementary aged family or local provider that you believe may be interested in this event.
Thank you and we hope to ‘see’ you there! Please contact Kelly with any questions.
