English-
We have finished up our biography unit, with Mark Twain’s life along the mighty Mississippi River. And now, we have started the novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and loving the adventure! Please remind your child to review their “Tom Sawyer” packet nightly. If they forget their packet or their book, it is on Google Classroom and the book has been downloaded to their Chromebooks! You have to LOVE technology.
The English MCAS test is May 1st and 2nd. Please make sure the kids get a lot of rest and eat a good breakfast the day of the test! We’ve been preparing all year, and I know they will do great!
Please keep checking Google Classroom for updates and homework.
Math-
Spring break is over. MCAS season has begun. We’ll have math MCAS on May 15th & May 16th. Our first test of term 4 will be on May 10 for A, B, & C blocks and on May 11 for E & F blocks. This will be our last cumulative test of the year. We’re going to be learning a little more about 3D shapes and going back to review all of the things we’ve learned since September. Mrs. Perrault will continue to be available for tutoring after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 3:00 and during Powerblocks on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
We’ll continue to have weekly IXL and TenMarks assignments and please check Aspen & Google Classroom for all class assignments.
Social Studies-
April was filled with a lot of work despite having April Vacation. We finished learning about Ancient Greece, students completed a debate after a Sparta vs. Athens research project – It was a huge success! Chapter 6 test averages were overall very high as well. Students continue to do well in my class! After break we moved on to Ancient Rome where we dressed up as ancient Romans and were able to learn about Ancient Roman teenagers and what their lives were like.
In May, we will be working on the final project in class where students will have the opportunity to pick whatever topic they want to present to the class on Ancient Rome. Check Google Classroom for the guidelines, rubric, and deadlines. Students will get limited time in class to work on projects; most of the project will be completed outside of school. However, students are encouraged to use time after school to work on it. I stay everyday Mon-Thurs (with the exception of Tuesdays) until 2:30. Students should give me a heads up if they plan on staying after. I cannot wait to see the final projects! I know the kids are excited!
Science-
Reading-
Below is a brief summary of the movie. We will certainly discuss our thoughts after we view the film.
During World War II, 8-year-old Bruno (Asa Butterfield) and his family leave Berlin to take up residence near the concentration camp where his father (David Thewlis) has just become commandant. Unhappy and lonely, he wanders out behind his house one day and finds Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), a Jewish boy of his age. Though the barbed-wire fence of the camp separates them, the boys begin a forbidden friendship, oblivious to the real nature of their surroundings.
MCAS is coming up! We will review important reading and writing strategies to prepare.
Continue to look at Google Classroom for updates and announcements.
Reminder- please be sure your student has a pleasure reading book. Thanks!
