WEEKLY WONDERS

Charles Ellis Montessori Academy, August 2, 2021

Big picture

"let us give the child a vision of the whole universe ... for all things are a part of the universe, and are connected to each other to form one whole unity" Dr. Maria Montessori

It is with great JOY that I welcome our families and our staff back into the building for the 2021-2022 school year. We have a busy year ahead of us, but let us always take a breath to remember the great work that Dr. Maria Montessori charged us with - "education for peace." As Montessorians, we pride ourselves in an expansive and rich academic and social learning experience, however, we are also conscious of the greater inner work that each child must engage in, to find their place in this world. Daily, as we celebrate wonderment and the joy of childhood, I implore you to observe, participate and contribute to our mission to...

"Educate the Whole Child for a Whole World."

Peace Always,

Ms. Tanya

P.S. I am here for you and our children. Do not hesitate to reach out to me via email:

Student Information Verification

From SCCPSS:

Each year, parents/guardians are asked to verify/update the address and contact information on file at the school. This is referred to as Online Student Verification. Failure to verify this information could result in not receiving important information from the school/district. It is important for schools to have the most recent information on file.

To verify/update your information, click here no later than August 4, 2021. Only one legal parent/guardian can complete the verification. Parents/Guardians will use the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access the Online Student Verification. (Note: You cannot use the PowerSchool app. You must go to the web page here)

If parents/guardians need a Parent Access account, please click here to request one.

Please note if the address has changed, new proof of address must be uploaded in the verification.

If parent/guardian names have changed, it will require parent/guardian to contact the school and provide required documentation.

How do I get started?
Visit the Parent Portal by clicking here:

  1. Log into Parent Access.
  2. Select the student you wish to register along the top.
  3. Select the Student Verification 21-22 Icon on the left side.
  4. Agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Click Begin Forms.
  6. Repeat the process for all students.

I do not have a Parent Access account.
If parents/guardians need a Parent Access account, please click here to request one.

I forgot my login credentials for the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
If you already have an account and do not remember your username and password, please click the reset Username/Password on the Parent Access login screen here: https://sccpss.powerschool.com/public/account_recovery_begin.html

Device Distribution

Primary (PreK/K) students will be receiving iPads and Lower El-Erdkinder (1st-8th Grades) will be receiving Chromebooks to use in the classroom/at home this year.

The district is offering a Family Protection Plan (FPP) for the devices this year for only $25. The FPP will cover accidental damage (not loss or theft) of the device and provide up to TWO replacement devices this school year. Please note that the cost of device repairs (if the FPP is NOT purchased) has increased due to demand for the parts (a Chromebook screen replacement, our most common repair, is now $90!), so we HIGHLY recommend that you purchase the FPP for each student's device.

The deadline to purchase the FPP is August 20, 2021.

The FPP can be purchased through School Cash Online. You will find instructions on how to register for School Cash Online and connect your student(s) to your account here.

If your family is in need of a HotSpot device, contact Ms. Lisa to see if you qualify.

Student Learning Device Loan Form and FPP Information (This form MUST be filled out by a parent/guardian for EVERY student)- These will be available in your classroom at Open House or you can fill out the digital version at this link.

Counselor's Corner

I cannot tell you how meaningful it will be for me to see your children once again very soon, to be making connections again. It's like this new school year is a fresh start, and a breath of fresh air. We're all in this together, and we have been the whole time, but I just can't begin to express how much I am looking forward to having our Ellis community together again soon.

This year, we welcome Ms. Maggie McGinty to our School Counseling Team. Ms. Maggie comes to us from Auburn University and is excited to begin her school counseling journey with us! She and I are very much looking forward to serving our Ellis Montessori community this school year. When you see her, please extend a warm welcome to Ms. Maggie!

As we prepare for this new school year, for relaxation inspiration, mindfulness activities, and community resources, check out our school counseling website. We hope you and your family are enjoying your summer. We can't wait to see you!

Register now!

As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools is striving to improve safety and reduce risk wherever possible. One safety measure is minimizing cash and check payments at our schools.

We use SchoolCash Online to provide an online payment option for tech fees and other school items and fees. If you haven’t already created a free account, we encourage all parents to register now, so you’ll be ready to make online payments from home: both now and in the future as more school items become available again.

SchoolCash Online is free, safe, simple, secure, and saves time. You will help increase efficiency and security at your school by making payments directly into your school's bank account. This limits the number of people entering the school, reduces risk of lost payments, and allows teachers and office staff to focus on helping students and not counting cash. In addition, you are automatically informed about school activities! Registering takes less than two minutes: visit sccpss.schoolcashonline.com and click Register.
