Husky Happenings
November 2021
A Message from the NHS PTSA Executive Board
This school year is off to an incredible start, and actually almost halfway over! While it has been still somewhat different than past years, activities and events at school are feeling much more normal. Parent/Guardian involvement and volunteerism has been easy to arrange, and it feels like folks are excited to be helping and involved again. I say this to note that we (your PTSA officers) are extremely grateful to be supported by so many willing helpers. Though we are not completely back to normal event/activity capacity, our “work” has been a joy because there is such an overall desire by students, staff, and families to see our traditional activities carried out. If you are interested in helping in some way, but have not done so, don’t hesitate to reach out to one of us and we will find the need that fits your desired commitment.
Looking forward, each of our officers will fulfill their term as officer in May 2022. Starting in January 2022, we will begin seeking officer candidates for each position so that we can hold an election at the April 2022 meeting. If you are interested in serving on the nominating committee or would be interested in learning more about one of the officer roles, please
don’t hesitate to reach out to us with questions.

MEMBERSHIP
North High School PTSA Membership has reached 231 members so far this year. At the end of November, we will begin an online membership recruitment event. Membership to North High School PTSA costs only $8. Students, Parents, Guardians, Grandparents, any person invested in the quality of the educational environment at North is encouraged to join. There are no requirements to attend meetings or participate in events, although that is welcomed! Support of our PTSA helps us continue to serve ALL Husky students through events such as PAYDAY, APPLE DAYS, Student of the month, etc. In addition, our Husky staff has again supported our PTSA with 100% membership. This is an incredible achievement that many schools can’t claim. Our Husky staff works tirelessly to educate our students, but they also have committed to partnering with parents/guardians to ensure that North High School continues to be the award winning school that it is. Please watch your emails for the opportunity to join our PTSA!
SPIRIT WEAR
We had an incredible sale earlier this semester. Orders were received from every feeder school and the junior high in addition to our high school orders. Your patience and support is greatly appreciated. Orders took longer to fill than was initially projected due to supply chain issues and numerous backordered products, but our Husky Family was patient and the reward was great. Watch North High School PTSA Facebook page for sales of the extra items that were received. This is a very limited supply, but extras will be posted there for purchase. In November, watch for several items to sell just in time for the holidays: North Christmas Ornaments, Lanyards, and Decals. All coming soon!
MUM SALE
The first month of school is always very busy, but even more so for PTSA since our mum sale must circulate and close within the first two weeks. More than 580 mums were sold this year, and about half of those were delivered. Thanks to all of our purchasers all over the North Attendance District, we were able to meet our goals for the number of mums sold and projected profit. It was a long day that started early unloading all those mums, organizing them, sorting into orders, and heading out to deliver. We had an incredible team of volunteers to help get this all done efficiently. Kudos to each of those volunteers--we couldn’t have done it without you! Our mums came from Rexing’s Blumehouse and were gorgeous as always. Keep this on your radar next August to remember to order your mums from PTSA and if you want a way to ensure you get your steps in, volunteer to help on delivery day! Thanks for a great sale!
PLAIN VANILLA FUNDRAISER
Plain Vanilla Fundraiser(PVF) has reached $2883. This is the primary fundraising entity for NHS PTSA second to the Mum Sale. Our goal for income from the PVF for this school year is $7500. So far, PTSA has received contributions from 78 families to reach $2883. That means only 5% of our student population has participated in supporting our PTSA in the easiest fundraiser of all time--no products to sell or deliver, no money to collect from your coworkers and family, no frustrating timelines--just a small amount of financial support from even 50% of our Husky Family would mean that we can continue to provide all the special activities for our students and staff that give them pride in their school community. Please consider donating to the North High School PTSA Plain Vanilla Fundraiser in November. Watch for the opportunity to donate via email and on social media later this month. If you are part of the 5% who already donated, YOU ARE APPRECIATED! Your support has allowed us to continue to function as normal as possible this year. Decide now that you will help: $5, $15, $25, $100….Your generosity is beneficial to all Huskys AND 100% tax deductible!
APPLE DAYS
Apple Days is a long standing traditional PTSA activity that had to be cancelled last year due to COVID. It was very exciting to be able to see this activity happen again. In the past, this has been a 2 day event, but due to several circumstances, we shortened this to only one day--Thursday, October 28, 2021. Sam’s Club donated 4 cases of Fuji Apples for our Huskies to enjoy. Multiple volunteers roamed the halls during homeroom selling apples to staff and students for 50 cents each. Numerous apples were left at the end of homeroom so seniors were offered an apple for free as they left a senior assembly in the auditorium. It was wonderful to see how excited the seniors were to receive a treat as simple as an apple, and even more endearing were the classrooms where the teacher offered to purchase an apple for anyone who wanted it or for the few students who gave donations so that their classmates could have an apple. What seems like a simple event is actually much more meaningful when you experience this kindness and generosity. Though we didn’t sell an abundance of apples that day, it can be considered a success!
PAYDAY
Coming in April… PARENTS APPRECIATE YOU DAY! This is a super fun day for every Husky student that has been held by the PTSA for students for more than 30 years! This event is the primary opportunity that PTSA has to celebrate each student for being part of the Husky Family. Initial planning is underway, and event specifics have not been determined with Covid protocols, but we need prizes and people to visit restaurants, etc seeking donations. If you have access to a product that you would like to donate, or are interested in helping gather prizes, please contact Carla Jackson at NHSPayday@gmail.com.

Key Club Makes Important Contributions
The Key Club is a student led organization whose purpose is to help children in the surrounding community. The club is an extension of the Kiwanis Club. Recently this year’s secretary, Liam Grangier, volunteered at the Westside Kiwanis Club Fall Festival booth. Key Club has hosted two jean days at North High School, sending all profit to the Tri-State Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity respectively. On Saturday October 23rd, Olivia Kerchief, club president, will be involved with the Westside Kiwanis Club Red Ribbon kick-off event. Other officers this year include Vice President Willow Daniels and Treasurer Lauren Page. The group has many upcoming volunteer opportunities!
Athletes Honored at Unified Sports Banquet
The NHS Unified Team celebrated the team’s success over the years with their first annual Unified Sports Banquet. The Unified Athletes were presented their athletic patch awards in a shadow box. These items were made possible by the Jacob Ball Wish Foundation. The unified partners also receive athletic patch awards for their participation with the teams. Congratulations to all the athletes and partners for many successful seasons.
