Should Our Children Be Afraid?
Strength and Blessings,
Mr. Maness, Principal
Tomorrow, Monday October 18, will be a Staff Development Day for teachers and a holiday for students.
School News
Unity Day--Will be this Wednesday, October 21. We encourage faculty, staff, parents and students to wear orange to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.
Red Ribbon Week Spirit Days (October 25-29)--Next week, we will have Red Ribbon Week where there will be an emphasis on healthy living and making good choices (and saying no to drugs.) Here will be the theme for each day and students and staff are encouraged to dress up accordingly.
10/25 Monday Put A Cap on Drugs Day ‐ Use Your Head ‐ Wear a hat
10/26 Tuesday You Have the Power to Be Drug Free ‐ Wear super hero t‐shirt
10/27 Wednesday Pair Up Against Drugs ‐ Twin day (Accountability partners). Dress like one of your friends.
10/28 Thursday Team Up Against Drugs ‐ Wear sports or school gear
10/29 Friday Bobcat Dash! Wear Dash T-Shirts
October Teacher Appreciation--Happy Fall! Let’s show our staff some love with a spooky sub sandwich lunch with a candy station in lieu of Halloween! This month will be sponsored by our 2nd and 3rd grade families. We will have each grade level assigned to each month throughout the year so there will be plenty of opportunities to help. Thank you all for making it possible to treat our staff each month! They deserve it! PLEASE PUT ANY MONETARY CONTRIBUTIONS IN SEALED ENVELOPE ADDRESSED PTO ON THE FRONT
All items should be dropped off by end of day Thursday, October 28th. Here is the link for signups: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49A4A923AAFBC70-october
No Halloween Costumes--We ask that students not wear costumes for Halloween to school. We already have so many fun reasons to dress up during Red Ribbon Week. In addition, costumes can get damaged at school and some can be inappropriate for a school setting.
Let Me Run--Give boys in the fourth and fifth grades the opportunity to be themselves, and they will run with it. Let Me Run is more than a running program for boys. Combining exercise with fun activities and lessons, our trained coaches inspire boys to be themselves, be active and belong.
Let Me Run Boys: • Run with an elementary team • Train for 7 weeks after school, 2 days per week • Grow in personal strength, endurance & goal setting • Recognize & respect personal gifts & those of others • Celebrate the courage to be themselves • Learn to be a better friend, identify true friends & feel the power of positive relationships • Compete in the final Let Me Run 5k

Bobcat Dash--We will have our Second Annual Bobcat Dash on Friday, October 29. This is such a fun event for our students as a culminating activity for our Red Ribbon Week October 25-29. (At this point, parents will not be able to attend due to COVID restrictions.) Pledge forms for students already went out. Students can secure pledges for laps run and all money raised goes to our Cherry Park PTO which is a 501c3. Thank you to all those who have already been business sponsors for the event.
COVID Call Center for Rock Hill Schools--If you have questions about COVID or need to inform us about your child or family member testing positive or being a contact of a positive, we encourage families to call 803-980-2016 or email mailto:covid@rhmail.org. In addition, there is a wealth of resources (FAQ, diagrams, and information) on our district website: https://www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us/Page/9564 Please use these resources first before contacting Nurse Love at school. This allows us to continue to focus on responding to the immediate health needs of our students. You will also have a quicker turnaround time of responses to your questions. Click on the button below for the RHSD COVID-19 Information page.
Substitute Teaching--Have you ever thought about subbing with us? We would love to have you consider this as an option. Even if you can only do certain days of the week, certain times of the day (AM or PM), or only want to sub for certain grade levels or areas, that would help us ensure that there is quality instruction when staff members have to be out. We are especially interested in anyone who speaks French or Spanish who could help out. If this is something you (or someone you know) would like to consider, please contact Jaelyn Skinner at Kelly Services to schedule an appointment to talk with her at this link: https://calendly.com/jaes458/30min
Ice Cream Sales--Will begin each Friday, starting October 8th. Cost is $1.00 per item. Ice cream money/orders are taken and filled first thing in the morning so unfortunately, we are unable to accept late orders.
Names On Student Personal Items (Jackets/Sweatshirts/Hats/Gloves/Lunch Boxes/Water Bottles)--Parents, we often have so many items in our Lost and Found. It is so easy to return lost items to students when we find names on those items. Please help label them so they can get back to your family.
School Improvement Council Elections--Thank you for your participation in our School Improvement Council Election. Here are our newly elected members: Amanda Campbell, Paloma Fernandez Sanchez, Brittany Jensen and Anitra Meeks. They will join Kim Crean, Amber Hinson, and Brooke Nies who were elected last year. Phyllis Faircloth serves as a community member. Elected SIC members serve two year terms. All parents are invited to attend SIC meetings but only elected members vote. If you'd like to contact any of the SIC members, you can reach them here: mailto:cherryparksic@gmail.com
