Updates

Dear Parents,

Due to a PD day on February 12, our Valentine celebration will be February 11. We are asking that your child bring in a Valentine card for each child in his/her class. We will not be having a party with crafts and games. However, we will have a little time set aside to pass out and open Valentines.

Thanks—

Sara, Julie, & Tennille

A hardcopy of this note was sent home and has a list of classmates on the back.

MATH

Your child should be bringing home their Rocket Math each night to study. We have noticed that many students are stuck at various levels. Just revisiting this paper with your child each night can make a HUGE difference in their progression through their math facts.

WRITING

We are beginning to do some note taking for our informational writing piece! The boys and girls are really doing a great job of researching their topic.

READING

Next week we will be reading Nacho and Lolita. This story is based on a Mexican legend and has a great message of kindness and friendship. In the the story Nacho, a rare pitacoche bird lives in a mesquite tree at the Mission San Juan Capistrano. He is a lovely but lonely bird, and when the swallows arrive in spring, he enjoys life like he's never known it before. In the fall, his friends must fly south, and he is lonely again, uncertain that they will return. He wants to do whatever he can to assure they come back to the mission.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE

Jeff Dykehouse, curator of natural history at Mackinac State Historic Parks, will be visiting us next week! The students will learn about the Great Lakes' watershed and the many ways that it interconnects with the animals of Michigan, compare the size and depth of the Great Lakes, view a satellite photograph of the region, and experience the look and feel of mounts, pelts and skulls of the many animals that depend on the watershed for life. It is a great program that incorporates science with Michigan History.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to our PTO for funding this program for our third graders!

Reminders for this week:

  • PLEASE STUDY BASIC MATH FACTS ON A DAILY BASIS!
  • February calendars will be due March 2nd!
  • Homework is handed out on Fridays and due back every Wednesday.

PLEASE DRESS YOUR CHILD FOR THE WEATHER

It is important that the students dress appropriately each day. We go out for recess daily. Please be sure that your child is dressed warmly for the day. Please label your child’s snow pants, coats, etc. with their first and last name. Thank You!

iPad Reminders:

* If your child is bringing his/her iPad home, please be sure that it has a full charge by the next morning.

*Find a safe location where the iPad can be housed each time it is home and not being used.

*The iPad is an educational tool, even though the school has a strong blocker, you should ALWAYS be aware of what your child is doing on the iPad.
