Webster Weekly
DANIEL WEBSTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - PASADENA, CA
Week of January 4, 2022

Principal's Message
I sincerely hope that you were able to have a wonderful two weeks to spend with your family. We are ready to welcome students back with important safety protocols in place.
The Omicron COVID-19 variant has certainly surged, but we will continue to follow our safety protocols to reopen school as safely as possible. We need everyone's cooperation to keep infection rates as low as possible.
- Please make sure students are signed up to be tested weekly at the school site. Registration link for Webster Elementary Students:
- Please have students who are 5 years or older vaccinated against COVID19.
- Please keep your student home if they are showing any signs of illness.
- Please upgrade to a surgical mask or a KN95 instead of a cloth mask and reiterate the masking policy with your student/s. Masks must cover the nose, chin and mouth and will be worn inside at all times and outside if within 6 feet of another person.
- Please send your student with a personal water bottle.
We will do the following on site:
- Provide surgical masks for any student who needs one.
- Test students on campus every Thursday with consent.
- Identify and quarantine positive cases and close contacts.
- Continue to use hand sanitizer and frequent hand washing.
- Send students home who are showing any signs of illness.
- Require that all students comply with masking requirements.
- Conduct symptom screening, including temperature checks, for every student before they enter school each day.
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
According to safety guidelines, parents may not enter the campus. Please avoid congregating at the school gates.
Procedures for morning drop off have been changed back to our protocols from last spring. Parents may not enter past the walking gate on Washington Blvd. Students will be screened at the walking gate for fever and other symptoms. No parents will be permitted to exit their cars during pick-up or drop-off unless your child needs accommodations/accessibility and it is pre-arranged. Please notify family or caregivers who drop off and pick up students of these changes.
PreK, TK, Kinder and siblings and our special-education class student drop-off will remain unchanged with the addition of temperature and symptom screening.
Please email Ms. Khrlopyan at khrlopyan.arpine@pusd.us if you will be picking your child up from the walking gate instead of using the drive-thru car pick up line, so that we have students at the gate at dismissal.
By car: 1st-5th grade parents should pull up to the Circle Drive entrance by the staff parking lot and follow instructions. We ask that you pull all the way forward for screening before your student exits the car. Please follow all traffic rules, and be patient during peak traffic times.
Walking: parents may walk their children to the designated walking gate off Washington Blvd next to the staff parking lot. Please maintain physical distance from others. Students will be screened at the gate.
Pick-up after school:
TK-5th grade: Circle Drive or Walking Gate by the staff parking lot.
LACOE has announced a take-home testing program for K-12 students. I will send out more information, including the distribution process, when it has been received.
Please email me and the classroom teacher(s) this evening or as soon as possible tomorrow morning if your child will not be attending school this week.
In the event of a teacher absence that cannot be filled by a substitute or certificated staff member, students may be assigned to another teacher for the day. You will be notified if this is necessary.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Webster Wolves are Strong and Smart!!

4th and 5th Grade Educational Trip
Hello 4th and 5th grade parents,
My name is Davina. I’m the parent of a 4th grader. Myself, along with Eliza and Debbie whose children are in 5th grade and 4th grade, have been talking with Principal Forrest in regards to having a trip this year.
Traditionally, in the past you might remember popcorn Friday’s which was how 4th graders helped fund a trip to Sacramento. This year, and hopefully going forward, we are looking to organize a trip not just for 4th graders but also 5th graders since they couldn’t go on their trip last year. Not only are we changing who normally goes on the trip; we are changing where they go as well. This trip would take place in May before the end of the school year. We are planning on having a zoom meeting to discuss the details. If you are interested in possibly having your child participate please contact us at websterclasstrip@gmail.com. Please include your name as well as your child's name and teacher.
Thank you,
The Webster Trip Team

COVID-19 NEWS
Health officials are monitoring a new “variant of concern” called Omicron recently identified in California. Our strategy remains the same -- making sure that everyone 5 years and older gets fully vaccinated or receives their booster dose as quickly as possible.
During the break, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) and Pasadena Public Health Director Dr. Ying-Ying Goh stopped at McKinley’s vaccine clinic. They urged parents to vaccinate their children because it is the best way to reduce transmission of the virus and it will allow us to continue in-person learning.
This month we are also partnering with local pharmacies to offer additional clinics for children ages 5 - 17.
Friday, Dec. 17, 3:00 - 7:00 PM, at Vons Pharmacy, 2355 E. Colorado Blvd.
Saturday, Dec. 18, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, at Vons Pharmacy, 2355 E. Colorado Blvd.
To make an appointment for a vaccine or booster, visit myturn.ca.gov. Our goal is to have all eligible students and staff fully vaccinated before returning from Winter break.
If you have questions, you are encouraged to ask a trusted physician or check with the CDC. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/children-teens.html
One more note, all 133 tests conducted at our drive-through clinic last week came back negative. If families cannot get to a District clinic, there are several other local options for vaccinations and testing.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are authorized for assisting with the supervision of
students. If you are interested please contact Mrs. Rojas, our office manager at rojas.linda@pusd.us.
All volunteers must provide either: a) proof of Covid vaccination prior to starting any
volunteer work; or, b) proof of a negative Covid test performed by a medical
laboratory provider weekly. Proof of vaccination may be provided in the form of a
Covid vaccination card or a screenshot of a digital record with a corresponding QR
code.
Proof of Covid vaccination must include the individual’s name and date(s) of
vaccine administration.
● Proof of vaccination or negative weekly test results for Level 1 volunteer records
should be completed and retained at the school site using the attached “Volunteer
Vaccination/Negative Test Result Attestment” form.
● Volunteers must record their time at the school site using the same “visitors log” that
denotes their name, entry/leave times, phone number, and email address.
● Volunteers are expected to follow the same Covid exposure and quarantine/isolation
protocols that PUSD staff follow as part of the Covid Safety Plan.
Tax Deductible Giving through Webster's Annual Fund
Daniel Webster Elementary School has been honored as a California Distinguished School. Great teachers, strong leadership, and parent involvement make Daniel Webster a great school to send our children.
In addition to the great education our students receive, they are also provided with various opportunities to participate in our music and arts activities. We're asking for your support to continue this legacy by donating to the Daniel Webster Annual Fund and help us reach our goal of $50,000.
These funds will be used to financially support our music and arts programs, and to support the instructional goals set forth by the School Site Council
We would like to see every family donate at least $1.00 per week ($50 for the school year) for each child they have enrolled at Daniel Webster.
Think of it as donating less than the cost of a weekly cup of coffee or soft drink to help ensure that your child receives a high quality education.
If you can donate more, we would encourage you to donate towards our Giving Tree. We have various levels of donations:
Bronze - $100
Silver - $200
Gold - $300
VIP - $500 or more
If you are not able to contribute financially please consider donating your time and talents.

Weekly COVID-19 Testing at the School Site
At its regular meeting on August 26, 2021, the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Board of Education took decisive action to bolster safety measures that protect students and employees from COVID-19. The Board of Education voted unanimously to:
ratify an existing testing plan that places mobile testing teams at schools for students and employee testing and now requires
all students under age 12 to get weekly COVID-19 tests with informed consent from parents/guardians
Testing will be offered at Webster Elementary on Thursdays from 7:45am to 3:30pm.
PUSD offers COVID-19 PCR oral or nasal swab tests on campuses
Testing teams will be at each elementary and middle school site for one day to conduct the testing program. PUSD Health Programs will not test students who have not submitted informed consent.
How can parents give informed consent?
Parents can provide informed consent through two ways:
Register through the online platform: https://home.color.com/covid/sign-up/start?partner=cdph094
Complete the hard copy registration forms in English or Spanish which will be provided for you by the COVID-19 Response Team.
The COVID-19 Response Team will also bring posters of the QR code that connects directly to the testing link.
If you or your child are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, do not come to school for testing. Stay home. You can come to the PUSD Primary Care Clinic at 351 S. Hudson Ave. Please call 626-396-3600 xt 88180 for an appointment.
Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months, recovered, and are not showing any symptoms, are not recommended to test.
COVID-19 TESTING THROUGH THE PUSD PRIMARY CLINIC
Get Tested! We strongly encourage all students not yet eligible for vaccination to get tested. PUSD is providing incentives for students to get tested. These include gift cards, water bottles, stickers, and drawings for gift baskets for the family.
How and Where PUSD Students and Staff Can Get Tested
- PUSD offers COVID-19 PCR oral or nasal swab tests on campuses and at the District’s Primary Clinic, 8 a.m. - 3:30 pm. By appointment, please call (626) 396-3600, ext 88180.
- Register for testing here: https://home.color.com/covid/sign-up/start?partner=cdph094
SELF-SCREEN BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME
Stay home if you’re sick.
- Before leaving home all students, employees, and parents must conduct a self-check. Ask yourself these questions:
- Do I have a fever?
- Do I have a cough?
- Am I experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
- Am I experiencing any other symptoms?
- Have I been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days?
- In the last two weeks, have I been directed to quarantine, isolate or take a COVID-19 test?
- If you respond "yes" to any of the questions, you must stay home and contact your school or office. It is recommended that you contact your primary care physician for further medical advice. If you have a fever with cough or shortness of breath, you are urged to contact your primary care physician as these symptoms may be attributed to COVID-19.
- Upon arrival at school, school staff will perform a brief check-in to verify that students have completed a symptom screening.

Important notifications for the new school year are posted at https://www.pusd.us/Page/9474 and are listed below:
Recent Legislation
Assembly Bill (AB) 104 was passed to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on student performance during the 2020/21 school year. This legislation temporarily modifies practices regarding student retention, grading, and graduation status for eligible students during the 2020/21 school year ONLY. Read the letter
Amendments to Assembly Bill (AB) 130 require school districts to offer an independent study option to students and families to be made available to students whose health would be put at risk by in-person instruction, as determined by the parent or guardian. The TK-12 Independent Study Program in the Pasadena Unified School District will be held virtually through the Center for Independent Study (CIS). Read the letter
