Girls to Defend their State Title This Weekend

These awesome girls leave Friday afternoon for Indy to defend their 2017 State title. Hopefully, some will travel to see them play and support them. GO TIGERS!!!

September Parent Pages Newsletter

Each month the LCMS Office of School Ministry publishes a parent newsletter to share. Below I have attached the September edition. It is a very well written article entitled "Building Resilient Children". Each month I will insert the previous month's published newsletter here for your reading. I would encourage you to read them. New Parent-Teacher Conference Sign Up Closes Soon

Parent-Teacher conferences are next Wednesday and Thursday, Oct 17th & 18th. Virtually all parents have registered at this time. Don't delay if you have not. Spots are limited. I will leave the signup open until the 15th in case you need to make a change.


Sign up will close on Monday, Oct 15th. If you have not signed up by then you'll need to contact your child's teacher.

Lunch Menu for week of Oct 9th thru Oct 18th

Parents, in my continued effort to reduce the number of emails that come into your email box from SJE, I am now attaching the electronic copy of the lunch menu here instead of in a separate email.

Do You Like Coffee?

A "Concordia Coffee Chat" will take place at St. John-Emmanuel Lutheran School following morning drop off at 7:40 a.m. on Friday, October 12th in the flex room. This event is for any parent to attend no matter what grade your student is in. We will cover information on financial aid & scholarships, application process, and timeline and then Q & A.


Attention 8th grade parents: The Priority Deadline is December 14th this year so that if families apply by this date, we will be able to send them their financial aid package by mid-February. We will still accept apps after Dec 14th, but they might not get their financial aid package until April. We look forward to seeing you there!


If you cannot attend, please feel free to schedule an appointment with Dawn Schuller, Director of Admissions & Retention at 260-483-1102 ext. 298. We will also be holding Discover Concordia Night on Wednesday, November 14th from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Illness Reminder

Winter is on its way so I thought I would send this reminder from the handbook out now so that everyone is aware of how it works when or if your child gets sick this winter. Please read below.



Illness and Injuries

Your child should NOT attend school if he or she:

  • Has a temperature of 100 degrees or above

  • Is vomiting or has diarrhea

  • Has a rash (unless has been diagnosed by MD as not contagious)

  • Has a communicable disease such as chicken pox, pink eye, hand, foot, and mouth disease, impetigo, or other bacterial infections

  • Appears obviously ill (with or without a fever)


If your child becomes ill at school, you (or an emergency contact person) will be called to pick up your child. East Allen County Schools will not transport ill students.



Return to School

Children kept home from school due to fever, are not to return to school until fever free for 24 hours without the aid of medication (fever reducers) such as Tylenol. Please check your child’s temperature later in the day as many fevers “spike” in the afternoon.


Children that are vomiting or have diarrhea must stay home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours.


Pinkeye and Impetigo are contagious and must be treated by a doctor. Students may return to school after 24 hours of antibiotic therapy or with a doctor’s note. Ringworm is also contagious and must be covered while the student is at school.

Middle School HOSA Opportunity

If you have a middle school student, they have an opportunity to participate in HOSA for middle school. HOSA stands for Health Occupation Students of America. Josh Castleman participated last year. If you are interested, there is an informational meeting at Concordia High School Monday, October 15th at 7pm in the library. You can learn more by going to www.hosa.org or www.indianahosa.org

Volunteering at SJE


**Please note that your volunteer hours this year (18-19) will reduce or eliminate up to $400 of the tuition increase/student set for the 19-20 school year.***

SJE Community Pasta Dinner

Our first community event for SJE is coming Friday, October 12th in Flatrock gym. We are offering a community pasta dinner at no cost. Be sure to invite your friends and family. We are making enough for 300 meals. Once that is gone, we're done.

The Lutheran SGO for SJE

It's that time again to have a conversation about our SGO. We have many families that have filled out applications requesting funds to assist with their school tuition. This is a great way to help them. It allows the donor to donate funds to the SGO and receive a 50% Indiana state tax credit. If your donation is large enough, you can carry it over up to 8 tax years. Our need this year as of now is $19,500.00, of which we already have $2000.00. Please consider giving. There are so many ways to do so and more are coming in early 2019.
