BSD Rundown: December 19
The Holiday Reception is Tomorrow!
We will see you at tomorrow's holiday reception! It is Wednesday, December 20, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Yeokum Center of Innovation, 613 Mill Street (east entrance). We will have raffle prizes and delicious food. You must attend the event to enter the raffle.

Mini Grant Recipients
You can still apply for a BEF mini grant! It has awarded nearly $1,600 in mini grants, and they still have funds left to award. Read more about the requirements in the application. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Sonja or Jennifer at 816-348-1150.

Fall Grant Recipients
The Belton Educational Foundation surprised fall grant recipients today.The BEF granted $15,385 to BSD #124 teachers and staff members.
HI/LO BOOKS TO SUPPORT STRUGGLING READERS
Mill Creek Upper Elementary librarian Melissa Arenson received $1,989 from the BEF to purchase Hi/Lo books designed to get students who read below grade level reading. They look like typical books for fifth and sixth graders, but they are written at different grade levels so students do not feel shame for reading them.
GROWING TOMORROW'S:WORLD MILL CREEK'S GREENHOUSE PROJECT
Mill Creek's Michael Cummins and Mallory Smith received $1,475 from the BEF to build a greenhouse on school grounds, which will allow students to observe plant growth from seed to harvest. This project will allow for scientific inquiry, environmental and sustainability lessons, community engagement and more.
STEM PHYSICS KITS
Belton Middle School teachers Ami Henry, Michelle Titsworth and Bryan Wasek received $2,489 from the BEF to purchase STEM physics kits, which will allow students to create and modify physics models. This will give students a hands-on way to explore inertia, potential and kinetic energy, friction and more.
BSD COMMUNITY GARDEN
Grace Early Childhood Center's Laura Linn received $5,000 from the BEF to grow Grace's garden into a community garden. This will give students of varying abilities and education across the district to grow food that will benefit students in the Pirate Pantry, and it will allow for more community-based partnerships.
FINE MOTOR BOXES
Grace's Emily Wills, Kristen Cummings, Melissa Gillen and Jade Wunder received $2,433 from the BEF for fine motor boxes. This will allow students of all abilities at Grace to increase their fine motor skills, helping students develop the skills they need to write, use scissors, hold pencils and more
