From the desk of Natalie Kijurna:
Hello!
It's August 16, 2019, the 228th day of the year. There are 137 days left!
My gosh did this summer wind down fast! I'm hoping there's still plenty of warm days ahead so we can squeak out a little more outdoor fun before winter settles in for awhile. I hope you've had an eventful summer full of all the fun things you wanted to do. I recently read a fun summer fact: Many, many years ago (when I was young) during the summer, there was only reruns on t.v. because the thought was everyone was outside enjoying themselves. I really do remember that - shows had season finales in May or early June and then returned in September. I don't remember watching a ton of t.v. during the summer unless my Dad was taking in a Chicago Cubs game, which was quite often!
Things sure did seem simpler back then whether it was the number of channels on t.v. (we had 6) or even looking for employment. After all, most of the time, people looked at the Want Ads in their local newspaper unless they knew someone who was looking to hire. In fact, that's how I got my job in 1992 working at a casino - my mother saw a Want Ad in the paper, cut it out, and gave it to me. I worked for the casinos 10 years. My point is, today there are SO MANY ways we can search for employment. One is reading this newsletter, or you can do your own research on Google, LinkedIn, Indeed, Facebook, or even go to employers' websites and apply directly. Or, you can go to job fairs where many employers line up to collect resumes. You can also go the old-fashioned route and visit an employer who you find interesting, such as a court reporting agency, and talk to them about your professional goals.
While searching for employment looks quite different today then it did even 10, 20, or 30 years or more ago, the process starts the same way - with you. YOU have to make the effort to search out employment opportunities, whether in this newsletter or somewhere else and then figure out what to do next. And remember, I'm here to help you every step of the way!
Please take a look at this week's opportunities below but also remember to go to www.ccr.edu. Click on Resources>Alumni/Employers and take a look at some of our Employer Colleagues! Each of these employers are interested in hiring. So, give them a call! Lastly, I do repost jobs from week to week for employers that still have openings. So please take a second look at some of these awesome opportunities!
NOTE: Voice Captioners/Writers - If an employer specifically states they hire voice captioners/writers, I note that in the listing. However, even if an employer doesn't state they hire voice captioners/writers, you can always inquire with the employer if you're interested in the position.
Questions? Please let me know. Remember, I'm here to help in any way I can whether it's providing resume/cover letter edits, interviewing tips, or job search guidance. Always feel free to give me a call or send an email.
Slainte Mhath!
