DRAGON PRIDE ROCKS
VISTRA Middle School Citizen-Athlete of the Week!
Congratulations
Aliyah Graves, MLC Girls Basketball
This past week I watched Aliyah Graves go from a quiet and reserved young basketball player into a strong minded leader. She noticed her younger team mates were not working to their potential and took it upon herself along with another teammate to set the expectation higher. Due to her showcasing her leadership skills and maturity Aliyah was awarded the Captain position!
SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
Trenyce Taylor
This school year has been a crazy one. From having to adapt to an online learning experience to getting through the college admissions process, I am proud to say that I gave my best effort. Even at the times when I wanted to give up, I had to find the perseverance and motivation to continue turning in assignments, making sure I log into all my classes and completing my IAs. My current focus now is making sure that I graduate with both my high school diploma and my IB diploma. I feel so close to reaching a long-term goal that I set for myself in 6th grade. Earning my diplomas will serve as a testament to my self-determination. It will be the product of hard work and proof to myself that I can truly do anything when I put my mind to it. When I envision my life after high school, I see myself out of state in Georgia attending either Spelman University or Georgia State. I plan on majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration. This will lay out the groundwork for me on my path to becoming a software engineer. High school has been a wonderful experience and given me the chance to watch myself grow both physically and mentally into a goal-driven, knowledgeable, and caring person. I am confident of the skills and knowledge that I possess, and I’m ready to step out into the real world.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE ANNOUNCEMENTS!!!

Make Them Hear You!
For our Q3 unit on “Music for Sociocultural & Political Expression”, the high school band was given the lyrics to “Make Them Hear You” from the musical RAGTIME, and given two class hours and complete creative license on how they wanted to interpret these lyrics. Here you’ll find the interpretations from six of our musicians, and each one is totally unique and beautiful!

MINDFULLNESS MATTERS
Hello from your School Based Health Center Clinician! My name is Nicole Perlini and I provide therapeutic services within the school to support student’s needs through individual counseling, small groups, or family sessions. My goal is to meet the students where they are and provide them with the skills and tools necessary to cultivate a happy, healthy lifestyle.
I want to acknowledge that these days are unprecedented as we continue to experience a world-wide pandemic and your child may be experiencing symptoms that are not part of their “norm.” Our home life, daily routines, and school structure look different which can become overwhelming. Many of us are feeling similarly. These past few months have challenged all of us and it is important for our students to have a toolbox of resources to cope in order to be LEARN!
Questions regarding Mental Health services offered at MLC please contact Nicole Perlini at nperlini@crec.org or (860) 242-7834 x2410.

In the fall, Superintendent Timothy Sullivan, informed families about the schools completing a trauma screening for all students who are educated within the CREC school system.
