Notes From The Office

The flu and cold season has been hitting hard this winter and there have been a lot of students out ill. Please review the following important information and remember to keep sick children home.

The flu is a respiratory illness caused by a virus. Flu symptoms can include fever/chills, cough, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, muscle/body aches, headaches, and tiredness. Be aware, the flu can have very serious health complications such as pneumonia. While it is important to know the symptoms, only special tests can definitively tell if a person has the flu.

Tips to reduce the spread of the flu and other respiratory illnesses include:

  • Get a flu vaccination each year.

  • If your child is sick with flu-like symptoms and/or a fever of 100.5 or higher, keep them home. They need to be fever/symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school (this is our district policy).

  • Teach your child to cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.

  • Make sure they wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand rub.

  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. Germs are spread this way.

  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that are shared in the home.

Thank you.

The Murwood Book Swap

Back by popular demand is The Murwood Book Swap. We will be kicking off Read Across America with shopping at our Murwood Book Swap on 3/2/20. On Friday 2/28 students can begin bringing unwanted, gently used books to donate for our swap. For each book they donate they will receive a ticket that they can exchange for another donated book. Students can also share tickets with students who don't have books to donate. Students can shop during lunch recess, class library time and after school. The swap will end Friday 3/6.

General PTA Meeting

The next General Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting is on Tuesday, February 18th at 8:15am in the Library. Coffee and bagels will be served! Art to Remember

Our school is teaming up with a unique fundraising program with Art to Remember that gives you the opportunity to purchase keepsake items with your child's artwork on them. The best part is that every keepsake order supports our school, our PTA and our upcoming Murwood Wild Wild West Auction! Order forms for the Art to Remember Fundraiser will be sent home with students TODAY, and are due back to your child's teacher no later than March 16th. You can place an order by filling out the paper order form and returning it together with payment to your child's teacher, or you can order online! Be sure to take the time to look at your child's order form as it features your child's artwork! If you have any questions, please contact Dawn Greenaway at dawncorey2002@yahoo.com.
