Notes From The Office
The flu and cold season has been hitting hard this winter and there have been a lot of students out ill. Please review the following important information and remember to keep sick children home.
The flu is a respiratory illness caused by a virus. Flu symptoms can include fever/chills, cough, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, muscle/body aches, headaches, and tiredness. Be aware, the flu can have very serious health complications such as pneumonia. While it is important to know the symptoms, only special tests can definitively tell if a person has the flu.
Tips to reduce the spread of the flu and other respiratory illnesses include:
Get a flu vaccination each year.
If your child is sick with flu-like symptoms and/or a fever of 100.5 or higher, keep them home. They need to be fever/symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school (this is our district policy).
Teach your child to cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
Make sure they wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand rub.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. Germs are spread this way.
Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that are shared in the home.
